Young Life has a rich tradition in Berkeley, going back to the 1950s when the legendary Bob Mitchell, who later became president of Young Life, introduced a generation of kids here to Christ. Berkeley is one of the most beautiful (and convenient) locations to live in in the SF Bay Area and even in all of California. It is a sophisticated, multiethnic, progressive, and diverse city just 10 miles east of San Francisco. The area features opportunities for every interest, incredible hiking and scenery, and the prestigious University of California at Berkeley.

Area for 20+ years. Doing ministry in the most unchurched area in the U.S. is challenging. But our team is all-in - for Christ, for each other, and for the world of kids that live right here in the Bay Area. What's the Job and What We're Looking For...

We seek a visionary, entrepreneurial, innovative and self-starting leader with a passion for Christ and Young Life who will take advantage of existing ministry opportunities, develop staff and volunteers, and harness the historical strength and passion for Young Life in this area to lead us into a new era of dynamic ministry.

We are looking to execute a strategic "re-launch" of ministry in Berkeley. This includes an immediate focus on developing a strong college ministry at Cal, where a club has existed for the past 4 years. Then re-launching vibrant and sustainable middle school and high school ministry in town.

Responsibilities:

• Serving in various capacities on the Cal campus (and eventually middle school and high school campuses) 4-5 times per week

• Get to know over 100 students by name in the first six months

• Recruit, train and retain a team of volunteer leaders

• Potentially supervise 1-2 part-time staff in time

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors

• Oversee and participate in the resource development of the area as directed by the regional director and board

Qualifications:

• Deep, abiding faith in Jesus Christ and love for people

• Passionate about middle school kids

• Proven relational skills with both kids and adults

• Proven successful pastoral, leadership, vision and team building skills

• Understanding of finances and budgets

• Self-starter

• Strong organizational skills

• Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills, especially as it pertains to parents and adults
