Area Coordinator for First Year Students
Department/Division: Residence Life and Housing (RLH)/Student Affairs
Status: Full-time, exempt
Job Summary: The Area Coordinator is a full-time, live-in professional staff member of RLH, within the Division of Student Affairs, and reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life and Housing. The Area Coordinator is responsible for supervision of Resident Assistants in multiple residence halls, coordination of staff development and training, staff recruitment, residence hall governance, and area wide programming.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities: The following outlines the essential functions of the position and is not to be considered a detailed description of all duties inherent in the position.
Supervision
Supervise the Resident Assistants assigned to the student population within their area.
Supervise Campus Plate student assistant.
Serve as the Break (winter, spring, and summer) supervisor for Resident Assistants.
Departmental Leadership
Oversee Resident Assistant Recruitment and Selection in partnership with the Director of RLH.
Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Resident Assistant Training.
Plan and conduct staff meetings for the purpose of training, input, support, accountability, dissemination of information, and performance evaluation.
Assist with the planning and implementation of residence hall openings and closings.
Assist with the planning and implementation of Room Selection.
Assist in departmental evaluation and long-range programmatic planning.
Support the maintenance and utilization of departmental software (ERezlife, CBord, JacketConnect).
Educate students on Residence Life and Housing and University policies, procedures, and regulations.
Serve as a student conduct hearing officer with emphasis placed on educational discipline.
Respond to and document emergencies, crisis situations, and student issues appropriately.
Oversee room change process for area.
Serve in the department on-call rotation.
Residence Education and Support
Assist with division-wide programming related to belonging.
Serve as a facilitator of positive interpersonal relations and community development.
Create and conduct educational/developmental programs for residents in areas of personal skill.
Become familiar with campus and community resources and utilize such for referral purposes in matters beyond personal expertise.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student and personnel information.
Departmental Communication and Decision-Making
Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating all policy-making decisions affecting RLH.
Assist in developing long-range plans and objectives for RLH.
Assist in budget preparation.
Attend and assist in the preparation of weekly staff meetings.
Attend weekly departmental meetings.
Division of Student Affairs
Collaborate with the Director of First Year/Second Year Experience.
Attend Division staff meetings/retreats and serve on Student Affairs Committees as assigned.
Participate in the All-University Committee structure as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree in Student Personnel or related field preferred.
Residence life experience including supervision, training, advising, Fraternity & Sorority Life and experience with first-year students.
