SUMMARY:

Facilitates the Special Education Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) process. Conduct ARD meetings at assigned campuses.? Complete all required documentation in the development and completion of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students at assigned campuses.? Maintain student records and work collaboratively with other personnel to develop plans for services for students with special needs.??

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Program Management

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) through the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process for each student assigned.

  • Ensure the timeline for requirements and for all students regarding annual ARDs, Written Notice to Parents of ARD/IEP meetings, and maintain appropriate documentation of the ARD/IEP process.??

  • Collect and organize relevant data from student's cumulative folder, classroom teachers(s), campus principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource people.?

  • Coordinate with all parties, prepare documentation, and participate in the ARD Committee regarding appropriate placement and development of IEPs for students according to District procedures, state, and federal guidelines.?

  • Assist classroom teachers and other District staff with the implementation of the IEP and the development of strategies for learning to maximize student success.

  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.

Management and Organization

  • Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IEP.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

  • Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Other

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.

  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.

  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.

  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.

  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.

  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university

  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate

  • Required Special Education Certificate

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in either Special Education and/or administrative?experience in the ARD/IEP process

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories

  • Knowledge of Special Education ARD process and legal requirements for documentation of student needs in the IEP process.?

  • Ability to keep technical and professional records and to make appropriate reports and recommendations

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • None

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Tools/Equipment Used:

  • Personal computer, phone systems, video/instructional equipment, and peripherals

Posture:

  • Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion:

  • Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists

Lifting:

  • May lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment

Environment:

  • Exposure to biological hazards

  • Work to be completed on-site from assigned school or building; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors

  • No remote work

Mental Demands:

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work; prolonged or irregular hours
