Job Title Archives Student Assistant (2024-2025) Job Description
Process archival materials, artifacts, and rare books in the Hess Archives. Provide support for reference requests, digitization projects, and exhibits. (#NOINDEED)
Job Duties
Rehouse archival materials and rare books in accordance with preservation standards; Write collection descriptions and prepare inventories and online finding aids; Complete digitization activities (e.g., scan materials, create cataloging metadata); Provide research assistance for archival reference requests; Design archival displays and exhibits; Abide by all health and safety protocols; Complete other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; Excellent written communication skills; Ability to deliver a consistently high level of customer service to all patrons; Ability to preserve confidentiality; Willingness to participate in ongoing trainings to acquire specific archival knowledge and system/software skills; Interest in completing duties that involve a moderate degree of independent judgment
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with historical research methods and previous experience in a library, museum, or archives
Physical Demands
Regularly required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; Regularly required to type, pick up objects, and move objects; Occasionally required to move up to 25 pounds and transport a distance of 10 feet
