This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, trades-level position with first-line supervisory responsibilities. It is expected that the Architectural Trades Coordinator will evenly split their time at work between carrying out supervisory duties and performing trades-related tasks. This individual oversees the daily operations of the College's carpenters, painters, locksmiths, masons, flooring installers, general maintenance and facilities support personnel. This individual also schedules and plans work assignments for these personnel, maintains preventative maintenance plans using the departments CMMS, manages small to mid-level building projects and works with the Administrative Manager to purchase the necessary supplies and equipment for these operations. The individual reports to the maintenance manager and serves as a member of the Facilities Management Leadership Team, and performs their duties in a way that promotes a positive work environment, which is inclusive and welcoming, collaborative, focused on achieving the Colleges/departments goals, and encourages a one-team approach.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of carpenters, painters, locksmiths, masons, flooring installers, general maintenance and facilities support personnel, including work assignments and work flow planning

  • In cooperation with the Technical Trades Coordinator, manage small multi-trade facilities projects

  • Procurement of tools and equipment required by direct reports for efficient and competent performance of responsibilities

  • Identification and procurement of training opportunities for direct reports

  • Coordinate with the Administrative Manager to maintain an adequate and cost-effective supplies inventory for architectural trades employees

  • Continuously monitor the job performance of direct reports and complete written annual performance evaluations for each employee

  • Complete selected work orders and participate in project activities as necessary to maintain timely fulfillment of architectural trades responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to maintain a current record of campus building conditions with proposed scheduling of major repairs and improvements

  • Serve as member of Facilities Management Leadership Team acting in concert with their colleagues to maintain high departmental work standards, adhere to all policies and procedures, foster a culture of mutual respect that is inclusive and welcoming, and supports the colleges/departments goals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and will also demonstrate many of the following skills, abilities, and characteristics:

  • Advanced organizational skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and web-based applications including CMMS

  • Basic financial and budgeting skills

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents

  • A strong commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts to support a sense of belonging for all and a working understanding, or willingness to learn, of current issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace

  • A strong commitment to the delivery of high-quality customer services

  • At least ten years of direct experience performing architectural trades work with some level of supervisory responsibilities during part of that period

  • Ability to maintain a positive supervisory relationship with employees

  • Ability and willingness to hold contractors accountable for cost, quality and scope of work

  • Commitment to engage in continuous improvement of skills

  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and a driving record in accord with College policy.

  • College level coursework not required but would enhance performance of job responsibilities and career growth
