The successful candidates for the Architect (Architect II) report directly to the Architectural Design Lead and will provide the D&T group with leadership and forward-thinking direction, management, and coordination on multi-million-dollar Force Account construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects.

The successful candidates for the Architect (Architect II) provides Central Engineering with in-house architectural design of life-safety, ADA, energy efficiency, egress, and space planning on multi-million-dollar Force Account construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects for all NCDAC owned facilities.  The successful candidates for Architect (Architect II) work closely with other in-house design and construction disciplines within Central Engineering, Regional Maintenance, Unit Maintenance, and with outside design and construction entities to provide services to the department in the form of plan development, specification writing, estimating, building envelope and roof evaluations, field investigations, project management, and planning, scoping, budgeting, and evaluation of other systems for new and existing facilities.

This position has a duty station of Raleigh, NC and requires the successful candidate to commute daily to the Raleigh, NC office with occasional overnight stays within areas of North Carolina.  The work schedule is Monday

• Friday 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM but flexible work schedules will be considered.

This is a full-time position ((40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

• Demonstrated experience with architectural commercial and/or institutional building design and/or construction.

• Thorough knowledge of NC Building Codes, State Construction Office guidelines and/or laws and ordinances relating to designing and construction/repair of buildings.

• Demonstrated experience in architectural planning and design of institutional and/or commercial structures. 

• A valid license to practice in Architecture in the state of North Carolina.

Management Preferences:

• At least ten (10) years of experience in the field of Architecture.

• An understanding and working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.

• Experience in construction administration, construction and renovation inspections and field supervision for the supervision for the purpose of ensuring conformance to contract documents.

• Experience with detention facilities architecture and construction is highly desirable along with a variety of project construction and occupancy types.

Bachelor's degree in architecture or an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience as a registered architect; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications

• Valid license to practice architecture granted by the North Carolina Board of Architecture.
