Description
The Kentucky Heritage Council (KHC) is an agency of the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet and serves as the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The agency is responsible for carrying out the identification, protection and preservation of prehistoric resources and historic buildings, sites and other cultural and historic properties throughout the Commonwealth.

The Project Architect position is responsible for working with the public to interpret and apply the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties for a wide range of historic property types statewide. The position is primarily focused on the review of state and federal historic tax credit applications, often in conjunction with National Park Service federal tax credit reviewers, but also includes the review of plans and specifications associated with local grants, state funded initiatives and Historic Preservation Act compliance.
The position works with the Kentucky Main Street Program to provide design assistance and technical expertise throughout the Commonwealth. The position also coordinates training workshops with A.I.A. and other professional groups and assists KHC staff and sister agencies on historic rehabilitation solutions.
The position also provides descriptions and plan reviews as needed for preservation easements and performs annual easement inspections on a portion of the agency's extensive easement portfolio, providing inspection reports and monitoring any needed changes or resolutions.
The successful applicant is required be a licensed architect who is able to stamp drawings. This position is a full-time Merit position within the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Review plans and construction drawings for historic building rehab to ensure federal and state compliance by on- site visits and consultation.
Provide technical assistance and training for constituents.
Review/process applications for federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credit.
Perform professional architectural work for design and/or alteration of new or existing structures.

Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which may require the following of safety procedures.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
