The primary purpose of this position is to Performs design reviews work for new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for real property facilities, utilizing a professional knowiedge of architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze current and projected technical requirements to develop standard architecture and interior design policy guidance, space allocations, furnishings, procedures and design criteria

  • Formulate policy, define standards, develop principals and establish processes for facility architectural/interior design for the command

  • Perform project management for the concept and finished design, planning, programming, and construction of a wide range of complex projects.

  • Plan and design substantial new construction, renovation and improvements on various types of complex architectural/engineering projects that encompass unusual features and involve new technology or complex structures

  • Plan, program, and manage maintenance, repair, and construction programs, including coordination to ensure projects are properly identified, prioritized and validated

Travel Required

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

I have a degree in architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.. (This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

OR

I have a combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. (This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

Specialized Experience:

GS-11: At least 1 year of specialized experience (equivalent to the next lower qualifying pay band or equivalent grade under the I have at least 1 year of specialized experience (equivalent to the next lower qualifying pay band or equivalent grade under the GS-09 or other pay systems) which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. My experience includes knowledge architectural concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of design. Knowledge of design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justification and specifications. Familiarity with related fields of work such as electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering for proper design considerations. Ability to adapt precedents or make departures from previous approaches to similar projects in order to provide for specialized requirements of some projects.

GS-12: At least 1 year of specialized experience (equivalent to the next lower qualifying pay band or equivalent grade under the GS-11 or other pay systems) which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. My experience includes knowledge architectural concepts, principles, and practices applicable to a broad range of design. Knowledge of design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justification and specifications. Familiarity with related fields of work such as electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering for proper design considerations. Ability to adapt precedents or make departures from previous approaches to similar projects in order to provide for specialized requirements of some projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1.Professional knowledge of architectural concepts, principles, practices; knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques; and preparing preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings and familiarity with engineering disciplines.
2.Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures; architectural and constructions standard, methods, practices, techniques, material , and equipment to determine compliance with regulations standards.
3.Knowledge of automated data processing concepts, systems capabilities, and economic usage to effectively accomplish assigned functions.
4.Knowledge of drafting techniques.
5.Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.
6.Ability to plan and organize work and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY: You MUST provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
