Overview

Kimley-Horn is looking for an Archaeologist to join our Orange, California (CA) office! This is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the growth of the organization's Cultural Resources Management practice, which supports many teams and projects across California and the broader western United States. The practice is responsible for supporting numerous and diverse tribal, public, and private-sector clients as they navigate cultural resource management requirements under state and federal environmental and historic preservation law. The practice is seeking individuals with technical expertise in the field, a passion for heritage stewardship, and an ethic of service to our agency, developer, and descendent community clients and partners.

Location

While our team is based in Riverside, CA, candidates who can work from any California Region Office will be considered (Coachella Valley, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, Orange, Pleasanton, Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, or San Mateo).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have experience conducting cultural resources records searches, pedestrian surveys, and site eligibility evaluations, and well as preparing site records and contributing to cultural resources technical studies pursuant to applicable state and federal environmental and historic preservation law, such as the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and/or Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). The ideal candidate will have experience supporting and/or engaging in Tribal consultation and public outreach. The ideal candidate will have experience providing training to entry-level staff, peer groups, clients, etc. and be able to meaningful engage with partners and clients in a service-oriented manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field is required

  • Successful completion of an archaeology field school is required

  • Must meet requirements for access to confidential cultural resources information housed within the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS)

  • At least 3 years of combined experience conducting cultural resources surveys, record searches, and site eligibility evaluations is required

  • At least 1 year of experience contributing to cultural resources technical studies prepared pursuant to CEQA, NEPA, and/or NHPA is required

  • Experience with a wide range of tasks related to Tribal community outreach, environmental planning, land planning, policy planning, and entitlement for a variety of land development projects is desired

  • Experience with various digital tools, such as SmartSheet, ArcGIS Pro, etc., is desired

  • Must follow safety protocols and be able to work in outdoor field conditions, lift field equipment (i.e. auger, shovels, post-hole digger, shaker screen, etc.), and safely operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged, remote roads with a valid driver's license

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to anticipate needs and effectively support internal and external partners

  • Must be highly organized and be able to manage, support, and track multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with independence and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Must be passionate, highly motivated, and have the ability to contribute to a positive working environment

Salary Range:

$80,000 to $100,000
