Summary of Position
The Archaeological Field Monitor will be responsible for assisting the Cultural Environmental Monitor (CEM) with the collection of monitoring construction activity data on a variety of terrain and construction project sites in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arkansas
Duties & Responsibilities
Archaeological Field Monitors are responsible for performing on-site contractor oversight in regard to sensitive archaeological sites, historical properties, or traditional cultural properties during construction by a contractor.
Monitoring ground disturbing remediation efforts (soils sampling, road repair, drilling, etc.)
Work independently, as well as with a team of other natural and cultural resource specialists to complete project work.
Assist in the preparation and writing of reports while applying scientific knowledge to interpret and present results of field and desktop studies as required.
Maintain current and accurate monitoring records of work performed on site.
Keep the Project Manager informed of progress and documentation of field activities of the Contractor.
Completion of daily progress reports, daily coordination calls, and monitoring the contractor's construction activities in their area.
Halt any construction within 50'of any anticipated discoveries and report immediately to the supervisor
Requirements
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, environmental science, or related field
2-5 years field experience preferred
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
Two or more years of experience in Archaeological field work, quality assurance/construction inspection work
Knowledge of construction-related processes and industry practices
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
Excellent written, verbal communication and organizational skills
Excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills with the ability to work well under time constraints to meet deliverable targets and deadlines
Other
Ability to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests
Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Willingness to travel when needed to isolated field sites
Ability to meet physical demands of the position such as walking, standing, lifting up to 40 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, squatting, and crawling
While prioritizing health and safety, this position requires an individual who is able to walk and hike through varying degrees of difficult terrain. Individuals may also be required to perform their job responsibilities in inclement weather conditions
Skilled use of topographic maps, GPS units, and other field equipment is required
Ability to pass drug screen
