The City of Raleigh is seeking a motivated person who loves the water, working out, and making a difference in the lives of the people they teach. This person must have amazing customer service skills and be an excellent communicator.
We are looking for skilled, certified water aerobics instructors who focus on strength, cardio, endurance, and balance training all while having a fun and upbeat class. Needs to be able to teach both shallow and deep-water classes. Candidates must be team players, flexible, dependable, and motivated.
- Design class workouts.
- Adapt curriculum based on participant needs.
- Teach scheduled classes. Begin and end on time. Provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
- Instruct patrons on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises, use proper names for exercises, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen/stretch specific muscles.
- Prepare appropriate equipment (if used), and music (if used).
- Assist patrons, answer questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience for class participants.
- Keep management informed of any concerns or issues related to customers, the facility, or equipment needs.
- Provide advanced notice to Management of expected tardiness or absence (vacation or sickness).
- Ensure that safety standards are maintained, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Provide a safe and fun environment for participants.
- Oversee the proper use of Water Fitness equipment, and ensure that all borrowed equipment is returned, properly cared for, stored, and secured at the conclusion of class.
- Follow guidelines to maintain equipment inventory for each class.
- Attend required training: In-house training for the city, AEA training, workshops, etc.
- Acquire AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association) certification within a year of hire (if this certification is not currently held).
- Be willing to teach at other pools in the City of Raleigh network besides your "home" pool. (not frequent, but as needed)
- Group Water exercise instructor certification.
- AEA (Aquatic Exercise Association) Certification.
- CPR/AED certificated.
- Able to teach both shallow and deep-water classes.
- In-house training for the City for Aquatic Group Fitness Instructor.
- AEA certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire date (and maintained once AEA certified).
- Knowledge of techniques and dynamics of Water Fitness.
- Knowledge of a variety of Water and Group Fitness classes.
- Knowledge of water fitness equipment and its proper and safe use.
- Prior experience in Water Fitness, Group Fitness, & Personal Training.
- Must have and maintain a current Fitness, Water Fitness, or Group Fitness related certification and be willing to obtain AEA certification.
