Job Summary

Our Y is looking for outgoing Swim Instructors who enjoy teaching children and adults new skills, helping them achieve goals and preparing them for future success. In this role you will teach children and adults water acclimation and safety, water movement and stamina, and stroke development and mechanics. Each year our Y's teach thousands of people to swim and enjoy the water as a form of play and life-long exercise.

Responsibilities Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines. Assists with maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Develops positive relationships with participants and parents encouraging involvement and identifying potential volunteers. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Responds to emergency situations as needed. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and, as appropriate, refers members to other YMCA Total Health programs and/or staff. Other duties as assigned.

You are 16 years of age or older and have:

  • Current state approved first-aid certification*

  • Current state approved community CPR certification, or equivalent*

  • YMCA Swim Leader certification or equivalent*

  • Demonstrated ability to assist children and others in the development of swimming skills

  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child

  • Ability to teach skills to others

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

VIEW JOBS 10/10/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-08T00:00 Safe N Sound Swim Camp Director Job Description Safe N Sound Adventure Camps is looking for a fun, patient, and safety-focused Camp Director to join our team. Our ACA Accredited day camps are high energy, full of fun and very popular. Our staff play a vital role in our campers' experience. They provide all campers the opportunity to build confidence and skills in and around the water in a FUN, SAFE, and NURTURING environment. Our Swim N Adventure Campers are ages 6-10 and receive 1-on-1 swim lessons, play water games in the pool, learn water safety and learn to snorkel. On the lake, they will learn to kayak and paddleboard! Out of the water, campers do arts n crafts, go on field trips to local parks, and beaches and end the week with a family picnic! As a Camp Director, you will oversee camp programs and staff. You will report directly to the Executive Director and be part of the Safe N Sound Management team. You will help deliver staff trainings and oversee staff performance and oversee camp operations. Start date is flexible, but we would like to have our Swim Camp Director onsite by January 15th, 2020, however, you could start as early as November 1st, 2019. Our Swim Camp Director is a full-time, year-around position. The salary is $50,000+ DOE plus the opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses. Although housing is not provided, additional benefits include, paid ORCA card, PTO, paid major US holidays off as well as being eligible for healthcare, dental and vision benefits. Responsibilities A Safe N Sound Adventure Camp Director has the following responsibilities: * Oversee the complete operations of the SNS Swim Camp * Oversee the Swim Camp Activities and weekly itinerary * Ensure Camp policies, processes, and procedures are followed by staff and campers. * Manage Camp Staff, which includes providing ongoing feedback and performance reviews to staff members as well as handle performance related issues that may arise. * Foster staff growth throughout the summer * Maintain daily communication with camper families * Manage the ACA Accreditation Update for 2021 * Complete required documentation to maintain American Camp Association Accreditation. * Manage off season (school year) camp programming * Assist with Aquatics needs from time to time during the school year. Qualifications We are looking for fun, highly motivated leaders to direct the summer camp team by maintaining a positive and safe environment on and off site. * Must have at least two seasons of camp supervisory experience. * * Waterfront camp management experience strongly preferred. * Must place a high level of value on Safety; especially safety in and around the water * Detail oriented, thorough, and able to self-direct using good time management skills * Dedicated to staff growth and development * Patient, energetic, motivated * Efficient and familiar with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and other web-based programs * Be at least 25 years old. * * Bachelor's degree preferred * Clean Driving Record.
