St. Andrew's Family Fitness Plus! is part of the St. Andrew's Parish Parks & Playground Commission.
St. Andrew's Parish Parks and Playground Commission is regarded as an international model for independent parks and recreation agencies which raises the standards of excellence in our industry.
Since our inception in 1945, we have gained public confidence, trust, and respect. We serve customers of all ages in the St. Andrew's Public Service District and the greater Charleston area.

We improve our customers' quality of life by strengthen community ties and offering a variety of innovative, entertaining, educational, and inspirational programs. We create a fun, safe, and exciting atmosphere and clean, contemporary facilities in which to help our customers and staff meet their goals and build self-esteem.
Develops, schedules and directs all recreational activities requiring use of the pool. Ensures participants have the opportunity to learn skills and have fun in a safe environment. Recommends and implements new programs.
Ensuring the cleanliness of all agency facilities and property
Creating an inspiring experience for all agency customers
Hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating employees in the performance of department functions including head lifeguards, lifeguards, water safety instructors, and water aerobics instructors
Ensuring the current & appropriate certification of all aquatics employees including LG/WSI
Establishing department goals
Developing and administering department budgets
Acting to ensure the safety and well-being of participants using the pool facility
Determining what types of aquatics activities meet the needs of the community and fitness center members
Evaluating aquatics programs for effectiveness and recommending changes
Setting deadlines and policies for aquatics program registration
Making program fee recommendations to the Executive Director
Assigning shifts to lifeguards to ensure the pool is monitored at all times
Scheduling pool for special activities such as water hockey team practice or birthday parties
Coordinating summer aquatics day camps and use of the pool by participants of other agency day camps
Coordinating and/or teaching Red Cross swimming and lifesaving classes
Monitoring the pool for appropriate chemical and temperature levels
Maintaining inspection and pool operation reports and permits in compliance with DHEC
Maintaining records of aquatics activities conducted, participation levels, and other relevant items
Maintaining inventory of AED and First Aid equipment for all facilities. Ordering and stocking supplies as needed
Coordinating with the marketing director to ensure program information is available to the community
Substituting for absent lifeguards and other staff as necessary
Teaching lifeguard certification, CPR and First Aid certification classes
Education, Experience, and Certifications
A bachelor's degree in physical education or a related field is required.
Five years of experience in the aquatics field is required, with at least two of those years in a supervisory position
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to produce needed knowledge and skills is acceptable.
CLP (Certified Leisure Professional) certification is desired
Water Fitness Instructor certification is desired
CPO certification is required
CPR and First Aid certification is required
CPR and First Aid Instructor certification is required
Lifesaving certification is required
Lifesaving Instructor certification is required
A valid driver's license is required

Mobility and visual acuity to inspect the pool and pool maintenance room
Mobility to stand, swim, instruct, and save others in the pool in depths of three feet to eight feet and widths of up to 25 yards
Mobility, strength, and eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to offer medical assistance up to and including water rescue and CPR if needed
Strength to lift equipment or materials weighing up to 40 pounds
Strength to pull a person of up to 300 pounds in water
Manual dexterity to handle a variety of items such as pool vacuum, pressure washer, control knobs, switches
Close range vision to read printed materials and far range vision to accurately see participants across the entire pool area
Ability to use and handle pool chemicals with appropriate personal protection equipment
Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone
