POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics/Program Director, the primary responsibilities of the Aquatics Coordinator will include staff training and development, relationship building with members and program participants, improving the quality of the aquatics program, focus on the recruitment of participants, program development, creating a safe and comfortable aquatic environment for members and guests while supporting the YMCA Mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Schedules and supervise staff, creating work schedules for lessons, lap and family open times, parties and special events
Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly
Serves in the lifeguard capacity ensuring pool is properly supervised at all hours of operation.
Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
Builds effective relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Conveys information on aquatics programs/schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
In conjunction with branch leadership, monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
Conducts certifications in lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, CPR, AED and in-service trainings.
In conjunction with branch leadership, assist in the marketing and distribution of program information.
Ensures records of staff certifications are current and completed. Maintains other records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.).
In coordination with the Facility Director, ensures proper maintenance of pools and maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels.
Attends Aquatics and Branch Leadership staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Participates in all special events for the benefit of the YMCA.
Hires and trains lifeguards and swim instructors.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certifications: Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
At least 3 years of experience in swim instruction of all age levels and lifeguarding.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical ability and stamina to perform the duties as outlined above, including but not limited to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
