About the Job:

Your Role:

Your job is to manage adult in custody apprentice and work based education programs throughout the state to prepare those in our custody for a successful reenty as a productive and financially sound member of the community.

You will develop relationships with institution leadership, work programs, instructors, and regulatory agencies to create and manage apprentice programs for adults in custody. The right person for this position has a passion for developing skills in others, a keen eye for law and rule requirements, and strong communication skills to advocate for the program and address concerns.

The work you do will result in a more stable and purposeful life for those who complete the program which greatly reduces their risk or reoffending.

This position manages work based education and Perkins grant funds for vocational programs and trainings. You will need to:

  • Be familiar with the trades and have the ability to work across functional unit boundaries to create and maintain apprenticeship and training programs.

  • Work with adults in custody and staff to identify program deficiencies and work collaboratively to develop solutions.

  • Administer grants - including grant writing, quarterly reports, annual improvement plans, and budget updates.

  • Obtain quotes, submit orders, and distribute of items.

  • Track and manage professional development related to career technical education providers.

  • Provide oversight and guidance for the food handler certification program.

  • Review proposed legislation, provide information for legislative reports.

  • Respond to request for information regarding programs and individuals.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, Finance, Political Science or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills; and two years professional-level evaluative, analytical and planning work

OR

Any combination of experience and education equivalent to five years of experience that typically supports the knowledge and skills for the classification

The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%.

What to Expect:

  • After the application deadline, a recruiter will review submissions for education and experience to identify candidates who best fit the minimum qualifications and requested skills.

Requirements for Employment

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
