SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION

The Apprentice Electric Meterman trains and works under the supervision of a Journeyman Meterman to develop the abilities and functions to perform labor, and meterman jobs. During their training, they will learn and progressively perform the responsibilities of the Journeyman Meterman as qualified. The Electric Meterman installs, field tests, and maintains meter equipment that monitors electrical consumption by residential, commercial, and industrial clients.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform the physical and mental requirements necessary to undertake a multi-step apprenticeship process designed to safely and efficiently train the worker to efficiently perform all aspects related to installs, field tests, and maintains meter equipment that monitors electrical consumption by residential, commercial, and industrial clients. Satisfactorily complete required program to progress to qualified Journeyman Meterman status

  • Communicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situations

  • Work overtime outside of scheduled hours, participating in either call out availability or an on-call rotation schedule, in response to acute and/ or planned service needs

  • Work together as a team member to safely and efficiently complete work activities

  • Individually lift and manipulate needed equipment weighing up to 70 pounds

MARGINAL WORK FUNCTIONS

  • These functions may be considered essential based on location, current level of apprenticeship training, and other factors.

  • Communicate verbally and understand audible signals in emergency/safety situations.

  • Respond to electrical distribution emergencies and perform meter-related service work as needed

  • Troubleshoot, install, field test, and maintain meter equipment to monitor electrical consumption by residential, commercial, and industrial clients, including installing, testing, and maintaining the following:

  • Instrument transformer metering for residential, commercial, and industrial substations

  • Substation metering

  • Telecommunication systems for metering

  • Self-contained metering

  • Calculate load data to size metering equipment

  • Read and use maps, diagrams, and other graphically displayed information effectively

  • Maintain meter inventory

  • Order meters and metering equipment for stock

  • Assist in assigning electric rates and evaluate rates to make sure customer is on the correct rate

  • Troubleshooting distribution and power quality problems

  • Operate bucket trucks, line trucks to install and maintain maintaining metering

  • Work on overtime calls in response to acute service needs

  • Complete all documentation

  • ECIS & FDM enter metering data, process orders

  • MS Access Meter Verification Database entering data and design changes to maintain transformer rated meter data information

  • Interact with the public

  • Labor tasks as required

  • Check customer's voltage/sets, monitor, and read recording volt meters when necessary*

  • Meter Reading / and associated meter reading processes*

  • Switching as needed*

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid Driver's License

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • Knowledge of applicable codes and safety

  • Commitment to safe working practices and knowledge of safety policies/procedures

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record

  • Adapt to technological changes as they are implemented
