Job Summary: Under the direction of Energy Conservation Construction Manager. The apprentice carpenter responsible for performing all types of basic carpentry repairs and construction at the direction of more senior carpenters and supervisor.

Essential Functions (Not all inclusive):

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete weatherization tasks on low-income residences:
  • Participate in Carpenters and Joiners training program:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Seal attic and basement bypasses.
  • Weatherstrip doors and caulk air leaks.
  • Utilize blower door to focus infiltration work.
  • Install proper attic ventilation.
  • Insulate crawlspaces, kneewalls, wellrooms, and water pipes.
  • Blow insulation into attics and sidewalls.
  • Construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of various materials.
  • Review and conform to building codes.
  • Prepare layout, using rule, framing square and calipers.
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Safety: Responsible for conducting all duties in a safe manner.

Requirements

Abilities and Skills: In order to be successful in this position, the person will at minimum need to possess the following abilities and skills:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • No major driving violations and no more than two minor driving violations in the last five years.
  • Must successfully pass a Department of Transportation (Non-federal DOT) medical examination, Upper Extremity test, Grip Strength test and Medical evaluation for respirator use.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background study.
  • Must be able to lift up to 44 pounds, carry up to 82 pounds and demonstrate these and additional physical requirements through CRT testing.
  • Minimum of 6 months building trades experience (non-union) preferred.

Benefits

Salary: $23.26 /Hour

Schedule: M-F, 40 Hours/Week

VIEW JOBS 9/12/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-12-11T00:00 <p><strong>Job Summary: </strong>Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Energy Services, this position is responsible for the installation of all types of carpentry repairs, and construction to ensure the home is energy efficient.</p><p><strong>Essential Functions (Not All Inclusive):</strong></p><ul><li>Performs and records findings using a wide range of diagnostic equipment to determine effectiveness of energy efficiency improvements. (Blower doors, infrared cameras, pressure diagnostics, worse case draft tests, etc.).</li><li>Installs sidewall insulation using the dense-pack method, bypass sealing, attic insulation, foundation insulation, carpentry related repairs and many other tasks associated with improving the energy efficiency.</li><li>Train and supervise apprentice carpenters.</li><li>Maintain crew truck and equipment.</li><li>Maintain an electronic account for materials used on assigned projects.</li><li>Accurately complete various electronic forms and maintains close accountability for assigned projects.</li><li>Assures work orders and specifications are adhered to. Assures change orders and variations meet Agency contract requirements.</li><li>Participate in ongoing training and stay abreast of issues effecting housing durability, occupant health and safety, improved weatherization techniques, building science, technology (computers, smart phones, applications, etc.) and worker safety</li></ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Status of Journeyman Carpenter as established by North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters and/or the ability to obtain Journeyman Status prior to hire.</li><li>Minimum of three years’ experience in residential construction including retrofitting and/or remodeling/insulating existing homes.</li><li>Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, awareness of deadlines and ability to function independently. Good math and estimating ability.</li><li>Experience in Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program and/or utility sponsored weatherization programs strongly preferred.</li><li>Experienced in the use of blower doors, infrared cameras, pressure diagnostic equipment, worst case draft tests, and other electronic diagnostic equipment commonly used in weatherization and housing retrofitting programs strongly preferred.</li><li>Ability to use or experience in Google applications such as G-Mail, Google Docs, etc.</li><li>Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. No major violations and no more than two minor violations in the last five years. Clean driving records are preferred.</li><li>Ability to work with low income and multi ethnic groups and individuals.</li><li>Must be able to successfully pass a pre-placement physical that includes Department of Transportation (Non-Federal DOT) medical examination, CRT test, Upper Extremity test, Grip Strength test and Medical evaluation for respirator use.
