We currently have an open position for an Appointment Specialist. This is an hourly, non-exempt full-time position.

The Center for Family Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) located in Jackson, Michigan. We are a multi-specialty clinic with practitioners specializing in the areas of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and

Ob/Gyn. Our agency has expanded greatly over the years and now has our medical, dental, pharmacy and support services as well as four school-based health centers in the Jackson area. For more information on the Center for Family Health go to www.centerforfamilyhealth.org.

Position Summary:

Assists providers with patient care, as directed.

Medical Assistants (MAs) are assigned to a Patient Care Team that is committed to "Comprehensive Team-Based Care" to meet the needs of our patients and our community.

The MA is expected to work in a team-based environment where the approach is a whole person care approach that engages the patient in their health care and requires all team members to be effective and supportive communicators. A high degree of integration and collaboration is required to meet the varying and changing needs of our patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use different and integrated computer applications.

  • Prepares for patient arrival by completing the pre-charting checklist functions.

  • Provide comprehensive introductions.

  • Prepares patients for examinations and treatments by completing required rooming procedures including medical history, vital signs, Point of Care Testing (POCT), and review of electronic medical record 'rooming' section.

  • Set up rooms with necessary equipment and supplies as appropriate for procedures.

  • Communicate and explain processes and tests to patients along with providing relevant materials.

  • Attend and participant in team huddle.

  • Initiate and provide 30-second Report with provider using excellent communication skills.

  • Complete provider orders at time of provider visit or in follow up. This may include, but is not limited to injections, breathing treatment, EKG, weight check and blood pressure monitoring in accordance with CFH procedure.

  • Complete model of care steps (i.e. midway knock).

  • Complete all forms and electronic medical record 'In-Basket' messages in a timely manner.

  • Process prescription requests by provider or patient in a timely manner.

  • Conducts and follows up on all requests, as directed by provider.

  • Assists providers during procedures and chaperones, as needed.

  • Accurately label and process tests and specimens for outside testing agencies.

  • Ensures accurate and appropriate documentation in medical record in real-time.

  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment and instruments, as needed.

  • Keeps work area, department and exam rooms clean and fully stocked.

  • Work well in a team environment and provide excellent customer service to all.

  • Abide by all regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Graduate of a formal medical assisting or practical nursing training program.

  • Certification (CMA) or Registration (RMA) or Licensure (LPN) preferred.

  • Previous medical assistant experience.

  • Routine testing/training on various job-related skills and competencies.
