Applied Technology Adjunct Faculty - Onondaga Community College

Job Description:

The Department of Applied Engineering Technology is pleased to invite applications for Adjunct Instructors to support Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, and Electromechanical Technology degree programs. Major responsibilities of this position include college-level teaching of Electrical or Mechanical Technology courses and laboratories in areas such as machining, manufacturing, mechanism design, programming fundamentals, industrial safety, engineering drawing creation, circuit design and analysis, digital electronics, microprocessor, programmable logic controllers, and other typical electro-mechanical technical areas.

Knowledge of electro-mechanical applications in demand by local industry is also valued, including, but not limited to: pneumatics, robotics, soldering and electronic assembly, electrical test & measurement, mechanical assembly techniques, motors & controllers, sensors & machine vision, and industrial control systems.

The successful candidate will:

• Preparing and presenting lectures and course materials that comply with course outlines and outcomes;

• Meeting with students as needed to answer questions;

• Responding to student queries (e.g. email or voice mail) as needed, in a reasonably timely manner;

• Writing, administering, and grading all student assignments and exams;

• Computing grades and submitting them on time.

• Teaching courses in accordance with the schedule of classes and follow the approved course descriptions and syllabi established by the Division faculty and administered by the associate dean/director.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma and a minimum of five years' work experience in a technology field such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, pneumatics, robotics, soldering and electronic assembly, electrical test & measurement, mechanical assembly techniques, motors & controllers, sensors & machine vision, and industrial control systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidates with various combinations of earned degrees (master's, bachelor's, associate), licenses, certifications, and experience in Engineering, Mechanical Technology or related fields will be considered for Adjunct Faculty positions.

• Background in teaching college level courses;

• Demonstrated connections with local industry;

• Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and another language will be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);

• Practical hands-on, design, or technology management experience in the application of electrical or mechanical technology;

• Familiar with the following engineering some or all of the following software programs:

• Autocad, Inventor, Solidworks, Creo, Fusion 360

• LabView, PLC Programming, CNC Programming

• Matlab, Python

• Quartus II, Circuit Maker 6

Additional Information:

The ideal candidate will have the ability to coordinate course materials with other faculty to create an integrated course curriculum which reinforces student learning objectives across courses and semesters.

Adjunct faculty rate is $1,371 per credit hour; 3-credit hour classes are $4,113.
