Overview

Under the direction of the assigned manager, the Applied Public Policy Scholarly Project Graduate Intern (APP Graduate Intern) is responsible for project-based tasks to support a designated department under the on-going tutelage of a professional Mentor. These tasks may be administrative or service oriented.

Assigned projects will require advanced analytical and communications skills. Primary communications will be in a team environment within assigned department and will be focused on collecting the appropriate input for the assigned projects. Specific job responsibilities will vary by department but may include information gathering, analysis, writing, editing and/or report development, and related presentations. This is a temporary, non-benefited role.

Responsibilities

The Interns would be working in one of these MassHealth (MH) Business Units:

Office of Payment and Care Delivery Innovation (PCDI) contributes to strengthening the integration of social services for individuals receiving health insurance coverage through MassHealth, the Massachusetts Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program agency.

Office of Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) contributes to managing a robust system of supports for members of all ages needing services to enable them to live independently, and with dignity in their daily lives, participate in their communities, and increase their quality of life.

Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) contributes to managing a robust system of all major types of behavioral health services for members, including mental health and substance use disorders.

Finance/Operations (F/O) contributes to management of various policies, strategies and procedures including pricing, MH Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Eligibility, CMS regulations/policies, etc.

MH Quality and Health Equity Program (Q&HE) contributes in making equity a core pillar of value-based care including incentives for providers and plans in three domains: demographic and health-related social needs data, equitable quality and access, and capacity and collaboration.

  • Perform complex and varied executive/administrative tasks which require a high degree of independent action and the setting of priorities and procedures.• Conduct advanced research to assist other team members.• Create reports and perform in-depth data analysis.• Implement and manage tasks in accordance with departmental objectives.• Create and deliver basic presentations highlighting policy choices, challenges, and decision options that they discover regarding the work in which they are engaged• Perform assigned project tasks within specified timeframes.• Perform other duties as required • Meet and Report weekly to an assigned professional Mentor.• Meet and Report weekly with APP Program Advisor and Peer Interns.• Develop and present short presentation on this internship experience at conclusion of program.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATIONMaster's Degree Candidate (with no less than 18 credits earned by start of internship). Applicants must be formally registered in a graduate degree program, earned 18 or more credits (by their APP internship start date), towards the completion of a graduate degree, including but not limited to public health, public policy, health professions including nursing, medicine, and allied health, human services, economics or finance, health management or administration, law, statistics, informatics, or social and behavioral health.

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCEAdvanced analytical and communication skills.Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources.Ability to use standard office tools and software (MS-Office).Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONDoctorate Candidate eligible to apply (including those formally registered in a program pursuing their terminal degree or preparing for dissertation defense). Applicants may be formally registered in an academic program working towards the completion of a Terminal Degree in certain fields, including but not limited to public health, public policy, health professions including nursing, medicine, and allied health, human services, economics or finance, health management or administration, law, statistics, informatics, or social and behavioral health.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCERelated experience preferred.
