The Office of Sustainability and its staff are key agents in pursuing and guiding the effort to increase sustainability in operations, academics, and the culture of the campus. The Applied Learning and Engagement Manager provides expertise and leadership for a comprehensive Sustainability Office program that advances student learning outcomes for sustainability, prepares students for leadership roles and skills, manages student, staff, and faculty sustainability projects, and drives continual improvement and high quality service.
This position contributes to the Sustainability Office goal to enhance student leadership and engagement and to complement the Compass Curriculum Sustainability General Education requirement with applied learning opportunities. This involves developing student leadership and building practical skills from entry to advanced levels. The Sustainability Office strives to provide student employees, active volunteers and interested students with transferable leadership and sustainability skills.
Applied learning program development:
Communicateopportunities for sustainability projects, experiential learning, research, andGAF funds, to faculty in all departments (include programs such as GatewayProgram Seminar, Compass Curriculum, Bachelor of Innovation and more).
Increase participation and seek diversity inproposers from all departments and different aspects of sustainabilityespecially projects that support Compass Curriculum goals of GlobalInclusiveness and Sustainability.
Service Learning Internships and Community Engagement, SLICE, and Career Centerto develop skill building and professional opportunities for students.
Green Action Fund program and project management:
Supervise and mentor student employees and GAFmembers to achieve a cohesive and effective organization, includingrecruitment, growth in fund applications, student leadership, as well as thepositive impact and sustainability of projects.
Maintain a streamlined process for accepting andsupporting projects: meeting with potential GAF proposers to set realisticexpectations, assist with proposal writing, make required connections to campusstakeholders, and ensure financial rules are met. Achieve continuousimprovement on the fund application process to ensure fairness, and responsibleand transparent use of student funds.
Review all evaluation rubrics for proposals andfeedback from GAF members on each proposal, score rubrics, and provide writtenaccount of feedback to review before GAF voting.
Assist with project management as needed andtrack progress of projects to ensure completion. Manage all financialaccounting for Green Action Fund and mentor student treasurer. Maintainaccurate records of projects and impacts.
Develop a maintenance program with studentinvolvement for completed projects.
Reporting and Measurement
Implement a system to measure success and impactof programs and projects. Contribute significantly to the UCCS STARS submissionand assessing goal achievement for the UCCS Sustainability Strategic Plan.
Track student involvement and work with StudentSuccess to measure retention and persistence.
Provide a yearly report of all GAF projects,academic projects, funds allocated, impacts, number of students involved, andrecommendations for improvements.
Maintain the GAF website to provide updates onprojects and encourage proposals.
Volunteer and Service Learning Internship Coordination
Manage program to support exceptional studentexperiences while providing value to the office. Work with SustainabilityOffice staff to determine yearly goals for the office and matching those goalswith prospective student internships, service learning, independent study, orvolunteer opportunities.
Grow the program including outreach to allcampus groups with required volunteer hours.
Work with faculty to support Independent Studyor capstone classes within the Sustainability Office. Oversee Professional Experienceoriented academic courses (GES)
Applied Sustainability Skills Programming

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of sustainability methods andpractices and appropriate university, state and federal laws, regulations, andpolicies.
The ability to communicate effectively, bothorally and in writing.

Ability to develop and deliver engagingstudent-focused sustainability curriculum that furthers students' practical skilllevels.

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university.
