Job Goal(s):

Following the guidance of the BCBA, to implement home program goals and objectives including parent coaching, to support the treatment plan and parent participation in home programming


  • Pass the Parapro test or complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of college coursework

  • Recent experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders and/or related developmental disabilities in a direct care capacity preferred.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based methodologies found to benefit children with ASD preferred, including Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and Pivotal Response Training (PRT).

  • Previous experience providing education, coaching, and support to families with children with autism spectrum disorders and/or related developmental disabilities within a classroom and/or home-based setting

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion pertaining to the work environment

  • Ability to appropriately interpret and implement policies, procedures, and regulations of the Paramus School District

  • Able to consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to travel to multiple work sites; reliable transportation needed (proof of NJ valid driver's license and current auto insurance identification card)

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assist students who are assigned to the ABA Home Program.

  • Implement IEP goals as directed by the BCBA and Case Coordinator.

  • Work with parents to implement specified goals and objectives for parent training.

  • Teach daily living, social skills, and receptive and expressive language skills.

  • Maintain accurate data and graphing on all designated programs while updating the program book daily.

  • Plan and implement all aspects of systematic instructional sequences within the home and/or community.

  • Meet regularly with BCBA and/or Case Coordinator.

  • Attend staff meetings when scheduled.

  • Provide documentation of student progress when deemed necessary by BCBA and/or Case Coordinator.

  • Maintain student safety including the application of crisis prevention interventions and physical management techniques, when necessary and appropriate.

  • Implement behavior intervention plans designed to reinforce appropriate behaviors and eliminate inappropriate behaviors including disruptive behaviors.

  • Complete additional job duties as assigned by Case Coordinator and/or BCBA.


The ABA Therapist shall be evaluated annually utilizing the Paramus School District Annual Support Staff Review Form.
