Summary of Job Duties:

The Application Systems Analyst/Programmer

  • Senior develops, evaluates, and implements innovative informatics systems to solve complex healthcare and biomedical research issues. Applies creativity in adopting proven technologies, platforms, and architectures to new problems. Takes direction in developing cutting edge technologies, platforms, and architectures. Tests, implements, and performs upgrades to keep applications running smoothly. Performs application maintenance and troubleshooting and provides custom report writing. Requires creativity, strong communication skills, collaboration with other levels of staff and faculty, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED plus eight (8) years of experience in a compute environment OR a Bachelor's degree plus four (4) years of work experience.

  • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Perl, Python, and Java, C, C++, or C #.

  • Experience with a web-based programming languages such as Java Script.

  • Experience in one or more relational databases such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix or PostgreSQL.

  • Web based framework experience in Django, Ruby on Rails, Node.JS or similar is preferred.

  • The proven ability to document and communicate the results is indispensable.

  • Assignments involve systems analysis and programming work (full stack development) on tasks of high complexity.

  • Generally works under moderate general supervision.

  • Tasks routinely involve key business systems and mission-critical applications.

  • Moderate interaction with end-users, IT staff, and other division team members.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

Software development.

  • Includes analysis, design, testing and implementation. Includes determining system requirements, investigating existing systems, gathering data through interviews or research, determining hardware requirements and implementation within IT guidelines, defining input and output data requirements, specifying system data profiles and master files and establishing controls of data and processing edits.

Software support.

  • Administration and support of custom biomedical informatics software applications.

  • Create required test files, analyze test results and debug software operations. Check data for validity.

  • Assemble software documentation, software narratives and obtain testing approvals from users.

Administrative and other duties as assigned.

  • Includes meetings, research and other functions as needed to support the mission of the division.

Scientific communication

  • Contributions to scientific papers describing the programming work and its implications.
