The Agile Product Owner is a member of an Agile team who represents the voice of the customer and is responsible for working with the other stakeholders, including other product owners, to define and prioritize the product backlog so that the solution effectively addresses business needs while maintaining technical integrity. The Product Owner is a key role at Wolters Kluwer and will have overall accountability and decision making responsibility as products are developed and enhanced. He or she will intimately understand the customers and potential customers as well as the broader industry.

In this role, the Agile Product Owner is expected to build products from existing ideas and develop new ideas based on industry experience and contact with customers and prospects, collaborating closely with both business and technical resources to meet business expectations of budget, scope and timeframes. The Agile Product Owner will make many decisions on behalf of the business to address questions in scope, behavior and intent of requirements and will work collaboratively with the team to change/pivot approaches as necessary in order to meet release expectations.

  • Develop a product strategy and continually refine it for optimal product/market fit

  • Ability to breakdown complex workflows into individual actions

  • Engage with users through user research and interviews

  • Manage internal and external stakeholders of the product

  • Works with User Experience, Developers, QA, and others to create User Stories tying them to business value and continually prioritize the Product Backlog based on user research, company goals, and internal and external feedback

  • Works with an Agile Team to develop a release strategy for systems

  • Works closely with technical teams prior to entering each development cycle to size prioritized functionality and to make tradeoff decisions on design, scope, and system behavior / capabilities based on overarching system and release goals

  • Identifies key risk areas and develops mitigation plans to address system and/or business risk

  • Serves as an internal champion for assigned projects / systems; presents system functionality to internal and external stakeholders as needed

  • Ensures that system design is consistent with WK and industry standards

  • Coordinate meetings as needed to resolve questions about system design; ensure appropriate conversations occur throughout development cycles/sprints to ensure that tradeoff decisions about system scope are discussed and agreed to

  • Assist with project plans, milestones and metrics reporting

  • Assist with testing, defect tracking and analyzing results

  • Assist with product support

  • Assist with customer demos

Manage time and company resources appropriately

Proactively pursue professional development activities

Participate in special projects; and perform other duties as assigned

Minimum: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: A minimum of 6+ years' experience working in a software, consulting or equivalent organization.

Experience in technical product management of software, business or related systems.

Preferred Experience (includes minimum): 4 years of experience including:

  • Experience working in / and or certification in an agile development

  • Experience concurrently working on multiple project teams

  • Product management in the legal, document management, business process outsourcing, or financial services industries

Web-based software product delivery

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan and complete work on tight deadlines and budgets

  • Ability to work in an atmosphere of multiple projects and shifting priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with professional and technical staff, outside prospects, customers, salespersons, and third-party partners

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize work in the presence of deadlines

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Up to 20% national and local travel.
