We are looking for an Applications Engineer to join our Milpitas based team as a part of our PSG Global Technical Services Team providing world class support and protocol knowledge to Teledyne LeCroy customers. For the right candidate this exciting opportunity can expose you new products and technology years before it reaches the consumer market. This position will support our customers in using the industry's leading-edge test and measurement products for serial protocols related to USB2, USB3, USB4 and USB-PD. Top engineering teams around the globe use our products to develop and verify next-generation consumer electronics and computer products and we need someone who provide technical assistance and advice to multiple customers worldwide. The candidate will work with many teams including the marketing teams, sales teams, engineering teams and test teams as required. Through hands-on learning, studying technical specifications, and mentoring, you will extended your expertise in digital protocols and in our instruments that test and validate these protocols. Ultimately enabling you to become one of the world's elite experts in this field.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

  • Provide pre- and post-sales technical support for USB product lines.

  • Utilize Protocol Analyzers and other test and measurement equipment.

  • Provide analysis and support of USB protocol compliance testing.

  • Independently Interpret testing and compliance results and provide feedback to the customer.

  • Provide Technical Training in support of our products to new and existing customers or at industry events.

  • Collaborate with other team members: sales engineering, marketing, application engineering and product development teams

  • Maintain and develop relationships with customers and key decision makers

  • Contribute new product proposals for product roadmaps, validate new product releases, champion customer needs in product development

  • Respond to customer queries and requests for help using the support tracking system by web, email and phone.

  • Attend and Represent Teledyne LeCroy at industry events.

  • Work within organizational policies and practices



  • BSEE/BSCS, Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electronics/ electrical engineering / relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of USB2.0 specification

  • Knowledge of USB3.1 specification

  • Knowledge of USB-PD specification

  • Knowledge of Thunderbolt

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally

  • Ability to obtain necessary documentation to travel domestically and internationally

  • Great communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)

  • Strong analytical /problem solving skills, proactive problem solver

  • Comfortable interfacing with customers and being part of the Sales process

  • Good understanding of Sales cycle and customer decision making and development cycle

  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics principles in particular high speed serial protocols

  • Basic understanding of computer network configuration and protocols

  • Ability to obtain necessary documentation to travel domestically and internationally

  • Customer support experience pre and post sales

  • Experience using test instruments (e.g. compliance testers, digital video/audio analyzers)

  • USB Standards Compliance Testing experience.

  • Debug of USB protocol experience

  • Familiarity with a Windows operating environment

  • Foreign language skills ideal but not required

Work as part of a mulit-disciplinary team (Marketing, Design, Test & Evaluation, Field Applications/Market Segment) to engage closely with our customers, delivering differentiated solutions to the toughest customer problems. * Beyond single products, work to develop technology strategy that underpins future products - positively and actively effecting this process. * Be responsible for design-in success for released products and products under development. * Implement first class customer design-in support. Understand the customer needs and application. Provide innovative, practical and timely solutions to customer issues. Work with field colleagues or directly with the customer to solve these issues and clearly direct communicate the solutions. * Create tools that make it faster and easier for our customers to design-in our products. The goal is to accelerate our customer's development. Tools include those used by customers in selection, evaluation and demonstration systems phases. Use both on-line tools and hardware/software kits to enable and scale this. * Work within a cross-discipline team to efficiently bring new products to market acting as the customer advocate using system and customer knowledge which help teams make informed, evidence based decisions. * Customer awareness of our technology, products and solutions is critical in a competitive market. Create technical media (datasheets, application notes, Circuits From The Lab, videos, technical seminars/webinars and trade press articles that promote awareness and use of our products. Make our differentiation and benefits to particular applications and markets clear in this media. * Developing a relationship with our Field Application Engineers, Sales Engineers and distributors via key training material creation and delivery helps us to reach the broad customer base. The role requires delivery of both on-site and webinar based technical training. * Developing system level understanding in relevant application segments helps. Understand the customer system issues with a view to defining value-added solutions, and play a leading role in defining strategies for those application segments. The Person * The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification with at least 3 – 5 years' experience. * Communication with our customers and our sales/field applications engineers requires an outgoing personality with a pleasant and professional manner. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are a key requirement. * Working well within a team – both the product development and within the applications team is a necessity. * The role is primarily hardware-based. Proficiency in software is desirable for complete systems understanding and design-in tool development e.g. C#, LabVIEW, C, Arduino, and Verilog HDL. * Showing an ability to solve complex problems, debug systems and replicate/deliver solutions on bench in hardware and software is a distinct advantage. Each day will bring new and differing challenges. * As the job requires constant communication with customers, it may, necessitate travel within US as well as the Europe, and Asia. * Working knowledge of basic lab equipment, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, network analyzers, and signal generators is required.
