Applications Engineer (Substation & Transmission) - Birmingham, AL

Job Overview

This is a Technical Marketing/Engineering position with a strong understanding of the supported product design, application & manufacturing methods. The Application Engineer essentially is the bridge between Product Engineering and the Technical Marketing Team responsible for Substation and Transmission Connector product lines.

A Day In The Life

• Collaborate with Hubbell Sales Team, Customer Service & Customers for day-to-day business (Problem solving, applications, competitive cross-references, training, bid packages and similar).

• Aid and assist Technical Marketing in developing pricing strategies and prices for projects and standard business.

• Work with the Hubbell Pricing team to set Market prices, approve prices issued & personally set the prices associated with major projects (significant one-time sales opportunities).

• Lead and assist in customer and field sales product training associated with product function and applications.

• Work with other Technical Marketing Team members to define product needs to expand the Hubbell product line offering to satisfy industry needs.

• Collaborate with Technical Marketing and lead Product Engineers to assist with developing drawings, specifications & exceptions associated with bid packages for quoted transmission projects.

• Assist Technical Marketing Team in development and maintenance of product marketing collateral (catalog, brochures, cross-reference tools, product launch material, and similar)

• Provide liaison and coordination between engineering, manufacturing, and sales.

• Work with Technical Marketing Team, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sourcing to rationalize and streamline product SKUs.

• Collaborate with other Hubbell Business Units to aid in One-Hubbell solutions in the form of Transmission Assemblies but also assisting with application solutions associated with both Electric Utility Substation and Transmission opportunities involving Hubbell Connectors offered by this business.

What will help you thrive in this role?

• Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline

• Preference towards to at least 2 years of industry experience associated with high voltage Substation and/or Transmission products.

• Other electric utility industry experience will be taken into consideration as a substitute. Ideally, would have Product Engineering experience prior to entering this role.

• If that experience is very limited or if not in the areas of these products, experience may need to be gained through an initial training period at Hubbell.

• Strong engineering aptitude to help develop necessary technical documents, test reports and marketing collateral needed to support the Technical Marketing Team needs and business objectives.

• Customer visits will be required occasionally for collaborating on major projects, promoting new products, training, and various other business activities.

• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and urgent timelines associated with wide range of job responsibilities.

• Good communication skills both verbally and through writing (presentations, sales/customer training, quote documents, business opportunity plans, emails, etc.).

• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products (most used: Excel, Word & TEAMS) and other critical software needs on a daily basis (PowerBI, AutoCAD Inventor, AutoCAD Vault, Salesforce, Workfront and SAP).
