Job summary

Red Hat's Public Sector Consulting team is looking for an Application Development Architect to join us in the Washington metropolitan area. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to passionately guide the adoption of Red Hat's solutions in our key enterprise accounts, government agencies, and service provider partners. Through a series of both in-person and remote interactions, you'll win the trust and confidence of customer engineering, development, and operations teams by aligning their requirements and use cases with the functional capabilities of our solutions. You'll build applications that scale to the demands of the modern digital marketplace. As an Application Development Architect, you will work together with customers in small teams to build, test, and iterate over innovative application prototypes attached to real business value. You'll use a variety of modern application development practices, along with emerging technologies from the communities of open source, to get it done. You will help us become the defining technology company of the 21st century built on open source principles. You'll also help us fulfill our vision by guiding the strategic success of our customers using Red Hat's open source software by building the industry's best team of open source developers and partnering with our customers to build the premium software systems of tomorrow.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Team up with our customers to lead the design and implementation of application prototypes in our labs, using modern application development practices and emerging open source technologies from domains like microservices, API management, and web-scale architectures, DevOps engineering and application delivery, container-based continuous delivery (CD), cloud automation, and everything-as-code

  • Create measurable hypotheses tied to business value; design a solution that tests these hypotheses over the course of an Open Innovation Labs (Labs) residency to help our customers quickly realize their business goals

  • Deliver successful discovery, analysis, and design workshops for small to medium teams of both technical and non-technical backgrounds that inspire and shape the customer use cases and architecture design decisions

  • Work closely with product business, product engineering, consulting, support, and sales teams to ensure excellent customer experience with Red Hat's offerings

  • Contribute to the development of repeatable methodologies and tools designed to scale Red Hat's services capabilities, promote repeatable customer engagements, and lower delivery risks

  • Demonstrate thought leadership in the open source community by producing outstanding whitepapers, webinars, and code contributions to relevant projects and by speaking at high-profile industry conferences

  • Team up with the open source community to engineer Labs-based software solutions designed to further accelerate our customers' success at Labs

  • Remain a coder that stays up to date on modern technologies and innovation

  • Become a trusted adviser to our customers, helping them achieve business success in an ever-changing technology landscape

  • Use your critical thinking skills to tackle tough problems in an innovative way

Required skills

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container tools

  • Experience working with automation tools

  • Background in architecting and designing complex customer solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain

  • 5+ years of experience working in a solutions architect, enterprise architect, or architect consulting delivery role

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related technical discipline

  • Experience leading successful modern software development projects

  • Experience facilitating software design and ideation sessions

  • Advanced practical coding skills in multiple languages and environments

  • Ability to perform customer-facing activities in a fast-paced environment with short timeframes

  • Working knowledge of design patterns applicable to modern software development

  • Applied knowledge of working in agile, scrum, or DevOps environments and teams

  • Comfortable working with highly distributed teams, including interaction with open source communities

  • Significant development and delivery experience with multiple programming languages, including Java

  • Experience with design, development, testing, and deployment of large, distributed applications

  • Solid object-oriented skills and applied knowledge of software design patterns

  • Applied knowledge of modern software delivery methods like TDD, BDD, continuous integration (CI) and CD

  • Great written and verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to study and learn quickly and put new topics into practice

  • Passion for open source software

  • Willingness to travel to customer locations 50% of the time

  • Active Top Secret clearance

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES: * Identifies, researches, and resolves customer issues. * Act as a primary interface to customers for support issues. * Performs escalation procedures. * Properly assigns customer tickets priority using impact and urgency and product categorization classification. * Perform password resets for customers on applicable systems. * Collect information from callers and ensure that tickets are promptly and accurately documented in ticketing system. * Utilize the ticketing system knowledgebase to guide callers through resolution of reported issues. * Properly assign tickets not resolved to the appropriate support organizations. * Operate within the Customer Service Center phone, email, and chat tools to provides support. * Answers incoming calls, works received email tickets, and process requests received via a chat tool. * Creates and updates tickets for all calls, email, and chat requests handled. * Creates and updates Knowledge Management documents as needed for HSIN program use. * Reviews existing documents for currency. * Provides feedback and suggestions to management for improvements with HSIN Service Desk. Education HS/GED Qualifications 1+of directly related experience supporting help desk / service desk operations Basic knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in customer service Use of Cherwell, or other call ticketing systems desired Verbal Communication / English as primary language Phone Skills Customer Service Attention to Detail Professionalism Multi-tasking Familiar with using web browsers (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) and managing their settings Unique/Additional Requirements Candidate must have Secret Clearance and must be eligible to obtain and maintain an approved EOD (Entry on Duty). This program requires 24X7X365 operational support; therefore, this position is not shift specific and may require rotation of schedule hours.
