A government agency located in Montgomery, AL is seeking an Application Development Analyst.

Work Mode: 100% onsite in Montgomery, Alabama (No remote work)

Location: Montgomery, AL

Contract Duration: 6-months, with the possibility of conversion to a fulltime

Responsibilities:

  • Support the ADPH Vital Statistics System using RPG language in an IBM AS400 environment.

  • Perform complex analysis, design, development, and maintenance.

  • Develop system and program documentation.

  • Test modifications and enhancements to ensure system integrity.

  • Debug and resolve production issues.

  • Transfer knowledge to junior programmers.

  • Under direct supervision of the State of Alabama Team Lead and technical experts.

Required Skills:

  • Software Languages: CL/400, RPG/400, ILE RPG, SQL RPGLE.

  • Experience: 8+ years of RPG programming on AS400 in the past 12-15 years.

  • Tools: Query 400, Aldon Change Management Software, ImagePlus, AS400 Screen Design Aid (SDA).

  • Ability to analyze complex situations, make sound decisions, work independently and with teams, multi-task, perform full life cycle development, troubleshoot real-time issues.

Preferred Skills:

  • Develop new or enhanced programs based on technical specifications.

  • Collaborate with Business Analysts on testing and training.

  • Analyze and resolve technical problems and software bugs.

  • Maintain and enhance existing applications.

  • Work independently and with team members.

  • Multi-task and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Perform full life cycle development, emphasizing business applications.

  • Support and modify existing applications as business needs change.

  • Develop and document workarounds for functional issues.

  • Troubleshoot real-time production issues.

  • Support testing of enhancements and fixes.

  • Recommend solutions and identify required program corrections.

  • Contribute to enterprise-wide metrics collection and participate in action plans.

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of Service Requests.

  • Document new/changed operational procedures.

  • Ensure accuracy of static data/configuration/setups.

  • Participate in peer review processes.

  • Adapt and reprioritize work as situations change.

Knowledge Required:

  • Ability to learn current systems and tools, understand business requirements, document using MS Office Suite, troubleshoot, and resolve problems.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
