The City of Roanoke is seeking an Application Developer II to actively participate in new development initiatives, enhancement of existing applications, and issue resolution/production support. Involved in all phases of software development life cycle: requirements, detailed analysis, design, development, unit and integration testing, and implementation of both development and support initiatives in .NET, client-server and vendor-purchased applications. Individual must demonstrate initiative, clear ownership and team responsibilities. Must be an excellent individual contributor but also a good team player. Candidate must assimilate new information quickly and have strong analytical skills. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in information technology; three to five years related experience and/or training in computer programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MS-SQL database and .NET experience a plus.

Examples of Duties
SUMMARY
Performs work involving the design, development, programming, and implementation of application systems that provide an information technology based solution to a City business requirement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Gather and analyzes information for developing and modifying information systems
Meets with users to determine the specifications for the installation of applications information systems as well as any enhancements, modifications, or interfaces to existing systems
Participates and/or leads the implementation and support of application systems
Develops test plans and quality assurance strategies
Designs applications systems and interfaces; test program logic, codes, and maintains programs
Trains user personnel in the operation of applications systems
Prepares detailed programming specifications and oversees the completion of the tasks when performed by less senior staff
Collaborates with department staff, defines application systems objectives and requirements
Prepares documentation for all components of systems as well as user documentation
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
