Job Description:

Instructor for Firefighting related course work. Course work may include, but is not limited to 36VFF, Firefighter I, and Firefighter II certification courses.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• This position requires classroom and/or online instruction in the discipline. The instructor must be knowledgeable in the discipline and must provide a high quality instruction. The instructor must have a demonstrated knowledge of and integration of appropriate practices of teaching diverse learners.

• Ability to relate to and motivate students. Excellent communication skills. Self-motivation and ability to work with little direct supervision. This position requires the individual to have strong skills in the following:

4.Computer use, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or other required programs, Blackboard, and Owens email

• This position requires the individual to have the ability to:

4.Manage a classroom, including organizing and presenting material, designing lessons and activities that will facilitate student learning.

7.Evaluate student work fairly using Department guidelines.

Essential Functions:

• Explain, Demonstrate & Assess students progress in the Fire Training Program according to State of Ohio Course Requirements & Objectives.

• Assist in setting up equipment & supplies in the skills lab for Fire Training students.

• Assist in cleaning and maintaining equipment and replacing consumable items used in the skill labs.

• Perform Proctoring duties for Practical Skills Stations during state skills testing at the end of each semester.

Minimum Education/Experience:

• Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school

• Actively employed as a Firefighter. Minimum Five years' employment with a Fire Department. Three years of teaching experience, including developing lesson plans and assessment. Subject Matter Experts within the Fire Service also considered.
