Appellate Litigation Associate Attorney

Jonathan Sternberg, Attorney, P.C., a busy, award-winning nationwide civil and criminal appellate practice, has an immediate position available for an experienced and motivated full-time associate attorney in our Downtown Kansas City location. The associate’s primary responsibilities are assisting in compiling and studying records, researching and writing appellate briefs, petitions, motions, etc., assisting with hearings and oral arguments, and handling other day-to-day matters.

Our practice focuses on representing businesses and individuals in civil and criminal appeals and related matters before state and federal courts nationwide. This position offers a rare opportunity to dive into appellate practice, grow your career, and learn from some of the best. Candidates must:

Have at least two years of prior litigation experience demonstrating a stable work history and a motivation and drive to succeed (appellate experience and familiarity with the appellate process are highly preferred; experience and familiarity with post-conviction relief in criminal cases is also highly preferred); Be licensed to practice (active and in good standing) in both Missouri and Kansas, and be willing to secure licensure in other states and federal jurisdictions as our practice requires; Demonstrate excellent analytical, research, and writing skills, as well as time-management, organizational, and communication skills; Be adept at in-depth use of WestLaw, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Professional, and able to learn new software and systems quickly; Show attention to detail, accuracy, inventiveness, work ethic, and the ability to work easily both with minimal supervision as well as with a team; and Be willing, ready, and able to work without hesitation on any sort of civil or criminal matter.
