Litigation Legal Assistant will be supporting attorneys with all aspects of appellate litigation matters. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience in the specialized field of appellate law, working on complex legal issues and contributing to high-stakes appeals.
Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive administrative and litigation support to a team of appellate attorneys. Assist with legal research on relevant case law, statutes, and court rules, with a focus on appellate procedures. Proofread and edit legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to court formatting requirements.
Assist with case management, including calendaring deadlines, filing appeals with courts, and tracking case progress. Organize and maintain appellate case files electronically and in hard copy. Assist with preparation of appellate briefs including table of contents and table of authorities.
Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel in a professional and courteous manner. Perform other legal and administrative tasks as assigned. Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all work performed.
Qualifications: 5 years of experience in a legal setting, preferably in litigation insurance defense or appellate law. Strong understanding of legal terminology and concepts. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for grammar and punctuation.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with legal research databases a plus, particularly those focused on appellate law (e.g., Westlaw Advanced, LexisNexis Appellate). Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also collaborating effectively with attorneys and other team members. Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
