RECRUITMENT RANGE: $36,530.00 - $45,423.00
SALARY GRADE: Grade 14
The Office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, seeks an individual to serve in the position of Appellate Clerk to perform specialized clerical and administrative work.
This position may perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the following:
Provide backup and support to other team members.
Prepare, process, and maintain appellate case files, including archival of records and management of evidence.
Process case file documents for mailing.
Provide general assistance to Court staff.
Provide assistance, in person, in writing, and over the phone, to members of the Court, staff of the Court, members of the public, and parties appearing before the Court.
Other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Clerk of the Supreme Court. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday with occasional evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the Court.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Knowledge of: NC general statutes; the North Carolina Rules of Appellate Procedure or Supreme Court procedure; basic accounting principles; legal terminology; the court system practices, forms, and procedures; and general office and clerical procedures.
Skills in: basic math; active listening; managing a high volume of public interaction; effectively communicating both verbally and in writing; fast, accurate data entry; good attention to detail; and MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to: read and comprehend legal documents; interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people; multi-task; adjust to unexpected events; meet deadlines; organize and manage files; work independently; maintain confidentiality; provide procedural information without giving legal advice; and maintain cooperative working relationships with the court and the bar.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school graduation and three (3) years of legal secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year legal secretarial science program with one (1) year of responsible legal secretarial experience.
Management prefers applicants with experience working in a Clerk's office or as a paralegal.
