JOB SUMMARY

Provides service to patients in acute, short and long-term care settings by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. Obtains a thorough medical history from patient and performs a physical exam to determine patient's needs.

Analyzes information collected from patient and establishes a diagnosis. Consults with physician if necessary. Formulates a plan for treatment of the patient and prescribes medicine if necessary in order to aid recovery and manage pain.

Makes necessary healthcare referrals. Counsels patients and family members on prevention and treatment plan for health issues. May participate in clinical research studies.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Position will primarily see nursing home patients and provide hospital care.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have successfully completed the certifying examination of the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistant. Must hold licensure/registration as required in the state of practice.

DEA certification may be required depending on service area role.

Must be credentialed by Sanford Health System and Sanford Hospital as appropriate. Must be a graduate from a physician assistant training program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Experience requirement may vary depending on service area or role.

Must have critical thinking and organizational skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills. Must have ability to build effective working relationships and use tact, discretion and diplomacy when working with others. Must be able to stay calm and focused in environment of multiple demands and use good judgment in emergency situations. Must have computer skills.

Position Requirements: Education: Prefer completion of high school or equivalent. Ability to read, interpret and explain to others operational directives (e.g., merchandise schematics, etc). Experience: Prefer store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environments. Physical Requirements: Ability to regularly lift up to 40 lbs. (and occasionally, up to 55 lbs.) from floor level to above shoulder height; must be able to meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting, with or without reasonable accommodation.
