Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider Neonatal ICU functions within the NICU and throughout the KCH service line and is an integral member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The APP functions primarily in the inpatient ICU setting, managing the care of acute and chronically ill neonates.

The APP is generally on a service-aligned team and manages the day-to-day patient care from ICU to step down to discharge. In some instances, the APP may have responsibilities for this same patient population as they return for follow-up in the outpatient setting.

The APP may also play a role in the admission process, including deliveries. The APP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and is responsible for ensuring an environment of safe, quality care.

The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism related to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

Our Neonatal Advanced Practice Providers collaborate with a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. The neonatal APP functions as a NICU medical management team member under the supervision of neonatology attending physicians. The APP should demonstrate professional practice behaviors; function as a team player; actively participate in case conferences, educational lectures, staff and committee meetings; maintain continuing medical education; and keep appropriate licensure and certification current.

Key Functions:

High-risk deliveries and perform resuscitation

Neonatal procedures

Round with a multi-disciplinary team

Develop daily plan of care, prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions

Manage pre/post-operative care

Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team

Communicate with patient/family/staff to promote continuity of care

Assist with the education of residents/students

Highlights:

Coverage of state-of-the-art 90-bed Level IV NICU and/or UK HealthCare associated Level II/III NICU

Level IV NICU is a regional referral center

Fast-paced high acuity setting, including surgical service

Delivery service of 2500 babies per year

Approximately 40 percent of deliveries are high-risk

24/7 neonatologist coverage

No transport responsibility

Flexible self-scheduling (12 and 24 hour shifts)

Will hire experienced NNPs, experienced PAs, and new NNP graduates

Night shift differential for coverage at Level IV NICU

Annual incentive bonus eligible

Annual salary market adjustment eligible

Annual CEU allotment

Premium pay opportunity for overtime

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience

For Nurse Practitioners, 1 year of nursing experience in a NICU and completion of a NNP graduate program required. For Physician Assistants, 1 year of NICU experience or 1 year of a PA NICU Residency.
