APIA Wellness Program Coordinator

Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. (RurAL CAP) is the only community action program for the state of Alaska. RurAL CAP acts as an intermediary for the AmeriCorps VISTA Program to place members with non-profit partner sites across the state.

This position is in collaboration with The Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association, Inc.

This is a federally recognized tribal organization of the Unangan (Aleut) people in Alaska whose mission is to provide self-sufficiency an independence of the communities served by advocacy, training, technical assistance and economic enhancement. The member will be based in Anchorage, Alaska. The VISTA member will be directly involved in securing funding through grant writing, defining policies and programmatic visioning, and working on wellness projects within the region and with individuals from the region who have relocated to the urban center.

The VISTA will coordinate local efforts to connect economically disadvantaged people to with health services. The VISTA will also assist in building capacity to the organization-wide Wellness Program and developing a variety of health promotion and disease prevention efforts that help improve the delivery of health care services and health education to stakeholders in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands communities served at APIA. Member Duties : The VISTA member will be directly involved in securing funding through grant writing, defining policies and programmatic visioning, and working on wellness projects within the region and with individuals from the region who have relocated to the urban center. APIA wellness staff will help provide the link for the VISTA member to the communities.

When necessary and with funding permitting, the VISTA member will travel and help facilitate community events in the region. The VISTA will coordinate local efforts to connect economically disadvantaged people to with health services. The VISTA will also assist in building capacity to the organization-wide Wellness Program and developing a variety of health promotion and disease prevention efforts that help improve the delivery of health care services and health education to stakeholders in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands communities served at APIA. This position has two (2) levels designed to provide progressively more responsible and independent work experiences. Progression between job levels is based on the demonstrated ability to successfully handle more progressively responsible assignments. Minimum Qualifications: SCF programs are established to serve a primary population comprised of Alaska Native people who are affiliated with Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) and Alaska Native and American Indian people within SCF's geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population. Such knowledge is critical to ensure the achievement of SCF's vision of a Native Community that enjoys physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness, and mission of working together with the Native Community to achieve wellness through health and related services: * High School diploma or GED. * Four (4) years of administrative support experience, bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience; or demonstrated proficiency as an Administrative Support III at SCF. Additional Qualifications for Program Coordinator II: * Two (2) years of Program Coordinator experience including one (1) year of grant and/or project management experience; or demonstrated proficiency as a Program Coordinator I at SCF.
