Otter Valley High School is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and collaborative PE/Health teacher to fill a vacancy in the 2024-2025 school year.
Successful candidates should be properly licensed or eligible for licensure to teach their content areas.
Job Responsibilities
All Otter Valley teachers are expected to:
implement standards-aligned units of study and engaging lessons
use content-specific pedagogical techniques to engage learners
use assessment to inform instruction throughout the learning process
create positive classroom cultures focused on relationships, inclusive practices, and reciprocal trusts
collaborate effectively with colleagues to improve teaching methods and ensure supports are in place for all students
Responsibilities specific to this position include:
use a variety of approaches to establish a safe and caring classroom community and to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for students
implement a balanced PE program that includes a balance of individual and team activities and thoughtfully incorporates social and emotional learning
provide a safe and productive environment in the PE classroom
contribute actively to middle school teams in support of students
implement best practices regarding school-wide student protocols (i.e., Responsive Classroom, Multi Tier System of Supports, PBIS)
Possess ability to deliver current, relevant and adaptable class content with real world connections
Demonstrates a working knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used to teach health and wellness for Grades 7 - 8.
Uses a variety of instructional techniques and materials, which are appropriate to meet the needs of all students
Understands the value of universal design for learning.
Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning.
Collaborates with special education staff for the purpose of attaining goals designated in students' IEPs and 504 plans.
Demonstrate knowledge of Health concepts and skills such as; Nutrition principles, Family Relationships, Child development, Human growth and development, Drug Prevention education, Reproductive and Sexuality Health education, Effective communication and Stress Management.
Create learning opportunities which enable students to apply their knowledge of Health to make informed decisions.
Instruct and guide students to meet their developmental needs in accordance with content curriculum
Develop interdisciplinary units and seek opportunities to integrate Health educational practices across all disciplines
Advances the interactive classroom through creativity and trust as both educator and advisor.
Required Qualifications:
Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsements
Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid
