Department: Student Services Department Job Title: Special Education Teacher- Elementary Autism - ABA Program FLSA Status:


(Exempt/Non-exempt) Unit A - Exempt Reports to: Special Education Administrator general description (1-3 lines describing role): The Special Education Teachers in the district wide program for students with autism and other developmental disabilities, work collaboratively with all members of the IEP team to ensure that the students in the program progress academically, functionally, socially and behaviorally as well as design and support meaningful, successful inclusion experiences.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in special education required.

  • DESE Licensure in severe special needs.

  • Prior experience working with students with autism and other intensive special needs who required instruction using

applied Behavioral Analysis and other evidence-based methodologies.

  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with numerous stakeholders.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years experience in specialized ABA setting

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (not limited to):

  • Provide direct and consultation services to students who have intensive needs in the district wide ABA program.

  • Assist and design programs that support students with behavioral, academic and functional daily living skills.

  • Instruct students in functional, academic and social curriculum utilizing a variety of methods in both individual and small group settings.

  • Modify and accommodate curriculum to meet students' individual needs.

  • Design and support meaningful inclusion opportunities across the school day for all students.

.Collaborate with related service personnel to create a student-centered approach for meeting therapeutic skills.

  • Support administrators in the hiring, training and provide appropriate professional development to the aides for the school year and extended school year.

  • Model instructional techniques to aides so that lessons are consistently delivered across all environments.

  • Respond to student crisis and provide necessary interventions (restraint trained as needed).

  • Schedule and run update meetings and contribute to the development of the IEP.

  • Organize the extended school year programming needs for each student.

  • Compile and submit MCAS alternate assessment portfolios.

.Evaluate students using systematic methods using formal and informal assessments, write evaluation reports and clearly present on the reports.

  • Consult with other district elementary schools around students referred to the ABA program as well as providing advice/ consultation to teams in effectively programming for students with intense needs.

  • Complete required paperwork and progress reports in a timely manner.

.Responsible for implementing "other job related duties" as needed

.Consistent and on-time attedance is required

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in both office and school environments as well as in community settings

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between multiple school locations (must possess valid driver's license)

  • Must be able to assist with student behavioral needs as necessary, to include responding to student's physical aggression of all types

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds

  • Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building

This includes a variety of modes of teaching, assessing and providing feedback. Our courses include content ranging from algebra 1 through calculus, and statistics. The teacher is expected to effectively teach and connect with students of all learning levels (College Prep to Honors/AP) They should be aware of how having learning disabilities and being an English Language Learner affects learning math, and possess the skills and strategies to support these students in their classroom. The teacher is expected to collaborate with other faculty and staff in supporting their students, developing their practice, and building community, and they will do this utilizing strong communication and relationship building skills. They should be willing and eager to collaborate with other math teachers in the department, and ideally have had experience working in a large school. Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or a closely related field that includes advanced coursework in mathematics * Massachusetts DESE Mathematics Teaching License (9-12) * Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement * Completion of a student teaching experience DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's Degree in Mathematics Education * At least one year of teaching experience beyond student teaching * Knowledge of Computer Science ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (not limited to): * Prepare and deliver instructional lessons using a wide-variety of educational and pedagogical techniques * Prepare and deliver instructional lessons that assist students in successfully learning course content * Make in the moment sometimes differentiated decisions based on assessment of student academic and social needs * Design, administer and grade a variety of formative and summative assessments * Track student progress in learning course objectives, and provide regular feedback to the students on their progress * Communicate verbally (in person and by phone) and in writing (via email or other means) with parents/guardians/other faculty regarding the progress, behavior and attendance of students * Use a computer and other technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom (this may include maintaining an informational website for students and families) * Implement accommodations and curricular modifications as specified in educational plans (IEPs) and as needed to meet the learning needs of students * Provide students with support (remediation and enrichment) using a variety of strategies * Research and learn new and innovative ways to approach instruction with content in the classroom * Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design * Supervise students in class and during study halls * Use an online system to record student attendance, midterm comments, term grades, and end of year grades * Distribute textbooks and use an online database to track student textbooks * Assist with the administration of school and state exams including midyear and final exams, MCAS, and others as needed * Participate actively in faculty, department and team meetings * Set professional development goals, develop professional development plans, and participate in professional development activities that improve teaching practice * Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students * Responsible for implementing other "job related duties" as needed Work Environment & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work Environment: Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for afterschool meetings (ex: Back to School Night).
