Dean of Students, Prospect High School

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Dean of Students assumes responsibility for overseeing student attendance and addressing student discipline proactively and preventatively. This administrator collaborates closely with Student Services staff, the School Resource Officer, and campus safety personnel to foster and uphold a positive campus environment.

Additionally, the Dean of Students is responsible for conducting Educational Support Personnel evaluations and providing educational guidance, support, and leadership to all staff.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Reviews attendance reports to identify absenteeism problems and truancies. Counsels with students, teachers, other administrators, and parents to identify, clarify, and understand attendance problems and assists with determining solutions.

  • Works with the School Resource Officer in situations requiring the mutual attention of the school and law enforcement officials.

  • Observes, supervises, and evaluates student behavior in non-classroom areas of the high school (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, parking lots) to promote a positive and safe climate.

  • Serves as a referral source for disciplinary problems, assessing their nature and initiating corrective actions or referring the issue to the appropriate authority.

  • Supervises the Campus Safety team, manages schedules, facilitates professional development, and conducts regular campus safety meetings.

  • Assists in supervising evening and weekend school-related events, specifically all home football games and dances.

  • Works closely with the Associate Principal of Student Services to provide support services for students regarding behavior and attendance interventions.

  • Maintains, reviews, and offers recommendations regarding student discipline.

  • Supervises and evaluates Attendance Assistants.

  • Conducts reentry meetings with student, parent(s)/guardian, and the student's team as necessary.

  • Serves as a facilitator for the Solution Finding Team.

  • Develops and integrates a successful habits curriculum into study halls and interventions.

  • Conducts classroom observations to support teachers.

  • Serves as the first referral from teachers on student disciplinary problems.

  • Collaborates with district and building leadership to ensure equity is infused in practice and remains at the forefront of efforts to disrupt inequities.

  • Performs other tasks assigned by the Associate Principal(s).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Presently hold a State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative Endorsement.

Candidate must demonstrate:

  • an understanding of Positive Behavior Intervention Systems as it relates to Response to Intervention;
  • an understanding of the attendance and behavior procedures and rules as addressed in the Illinois State School Code;
  • desire to team with and lead student services personnel;
  • superior communication skills.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 195 day assignment

SALARY RANGE: Administrative Salary Grade One - $125,567-$156,959; Plus Excellent Benefits Package

EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT: July 1, 2024
