Anticipated - PreSchool Principal

QUALI FICATIONS:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university

  • Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Department of Education Principal Certificate

  • At least 10 years successful teaching experience in Early Childhood Education

  • Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills and the ability to motivate people

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of effective discipline strategies and motivation, curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience as supervisor preferred.

  • Required criminal history check and proof of

  • U.S. citizenship or resident alien status.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, Business Administrator

SUPERVISES: All certified and non-certified staff assigned by Superintendent.

JOB GOAL:

Under the direction of the Superintendent of School, the Principal will provide leadership and managerial oversight to the instructional program and school operations to ensure a school climate that fosters the educational development of each pupil.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes responsibility for the management of the school in accordance with law, administrative code and board policies and regulations.

  • Exercises leadership in school-level planning for improvement of instruction. Involves teachers and parents in the development and implementation of state required school plans to achieve pupil performance objectives, curriculum content standards and core course proficiencies. Reviews the plan with teaching staff at least once per semester and submits an annual statement of assurance on the prescribed form.

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

  • Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.

  • Assists in the selection of appropriate instructional materials; and monitors delivery of the instructional program.

  • Conducts observations of staff members, prepares written comments; and offers constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate.

  • Conducts classroom walkthroughs.

  • Keeps the superintendent informed of school activities and needs and works cooperatively with central office staff on matters relating to the school and the district.

  • Assists in the selection of appropriate instructional materials and monitors delivery of the instructional program.

  • Participates in the development, evaluation and revision of curriculum and assumes responsibility for the implementation of approved programs.

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises all curricular and extracurricular activities.

  • Interviews, recommends for appointment, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the performance of all school employees and assists them in achievement of their job goals.

  • Conducts periodic observations of teaching staff members; prepares written comments; and offers constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate.

  • Prepares and submits the school budget requests and monitors the expenditure of funds.

  • Establishes and maintains an efficient office system to support the administrative functions of the school.

  • Ensures the safekeeping of student and personnel files and other confidential records and documents, and the destruction of public records in accordance with the law and regulations.

  • Approve the master teaching schedule and classroom assignments.

  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary in accordance with board policy and the students' rights to due process.

  • Notifies immediately the parent or guardian and the chief school administrator to arrange for an immediate examination by a physician or any pupil suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs or of using anabolic steroids.

  • Plans and supervises fire and other emergency drills as required by the law and board policy.

  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of all reports, records and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration.

  • Conducts staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

  • Plans and supervises regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences; and makes arrangements for special conferences as needed.

  • Acts as a liaison between the school, the home and the community; interprets policies, programs and activities; and encourages board community participation in the affairs of the school.

  • Keeps the superintendent informed of school activities and needs and works cooperatively with central office staff on matters relating to the school and the district.

  • Assumes responsibility for his/her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, memberships in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and by reading professional journals and other publications.

  • Develops and maintains a master schedule for the academic, extracurricular programs, and works cooperatively with the business administrator to schedule community use of the school building and grounds.

  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions.

  • Ensures that the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds.

  • Checks staff attendance and assigns appropriate coverage.

  • Collaborate and communicate with the school district personnel and with the office of special services to promote optimal programing for students.

  • Maintains continued articulation across grade levels.

  • Encourages and supports support staff to promote student social, emotional, and academic growth

  • Interprets Board of Education policies and regulations to staff

  • Promotes cultural sensitivity.

  • Any other duties assigned by Administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month position and salary as per GPA Contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board of Education policy # 3224 - EVALUATION OF PRINCIPALS, VICE PRINCIPALS, AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS

Selection Procedure:

Candidates being considered for the position will be contacted by the hiring administrator to schedule an interview. Effective September 1, 2011, all employees of school districts must reside in the State of New Jersey, unless exempted under law. If you already work for the school district as of September 1, 2011, and you do not live in New Jersey, you are not required to move to New Jersey. However, if you begin your office, position or employment on September 1, 2011 or later, you must reside in New Jersey. If you do not reside in New Jersey, you have one year after the date you take your office, position, or employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey. If you do not do so, you are subject to removal from your office, position, or employment.

Salary is based upon experience, GPA guide and approval of Superintendent.
