TITLE: Instructional Coach and Teacher of English as a Second Language

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • New Jersey teacher certification of Teacher of English as a Second Language.

  • Knowledge of instructional practices for students with English as a Secondary language.

  • Required criminal history background and proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status

  • Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience, focus on reading or literacy intervention preferred.

  • Strong understanding of literacy development, reading intervention strategies, and instructional best practice

  • Experience with using assessment/data to drive instruction.

  • Knowledge of and experience with professional development.

  • Outstanding record of instruction and student achievement.

  • Ability to work well with teachers; demonstrate and maintain productive and positive interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate an elevated level of professionalism.

  • Knowledge of NJSLS (New Jersey Student Learning Standards).

REPORTS TO:School Principal and Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teacher of English as Second Language (ESL)

1.Plans and implements a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities.

2.Implements curriculum objectives and goals using effective teaching techniques and materials.

3.Develops, in a cooperative manner with the principal and curriculum facilitators, a plan for the improvement and enrichment of instruction.

4.Writes weekly lesson plans describing daily learning experiences correlated to curriculum objectives.

5.Monitors and assesses student progress and provides feedback on a regular basis to students and parents/guardians.

6.Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific student's needs and seeks assistance of specialists as needed.

7.Communicates aims/objectives to students' in a well-planned, organized manner in clear, concise terms.

8.Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of the students.

9.Assists Administration in implementing all policies.



  1. Creates educational experiences to provide students with opportunities to develop potential in self-esteem, personal-social adjustment, decision-making and other life skills.

  2. Attempts to lead each student to an understanding and appreciation of the principles of democracy and endeavors to develop in each student a spirit of patriotism, with a full understanding that American citizenship involves responsibilities as well as privileges.

  3. Respects the dignity of each student as an individual and attempts to gain an adequate understanding of his/her needs, interest, abilities, aptitudes, temperament, and environmental influences, as a basis on which to meet his/her needs, and to treat him/her with fairness and courtesy.

  4. Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, parents, students, and community in a positive, solution-oriented manner.

  5. Assumes responsibilities for the discipline and supervision of students in the classroom, on school property, or in attendance at school-sponsored activities as all times and maintains a high standard of conduct and good rapport with students.

  6. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

  7. Assumes professional and personal responsibility for the management and progress of classes under his/her authority, direction, and supervision.

  8. Assumes individual responsibilities assigned by principal /supervisor which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision, or other planning and professional assignments.

  9. Maintains accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law.

  10. Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  11. Seeks to establish friendly and cooperative relationship between the home and the school.

  12. Provides parents with information that will serve the best interests of their children and is discreet with information received from parents.

  13. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.


Instructional Coach:

  • Conduct non-evaluative classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers to enhance their instructional methods.

  • Assist teachers in analyzing student data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.

  • Support the implementation of school-wide initiatives and instructional programs.

  • Serve as a mentor and resource for teachers, offering guidance on curriculum planning, classroom management, and instructional techniques.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning within the school.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement effective instructional strategies and practices.

  • Build trust and mutual respect with teachers and administration.

  • Provide support and assistance to all classroom teachers in the effective curriculum implementation.

  • Document visits, meetings, training, and feedback discussions.

  • Provide guidance in effective assessment practices.

  • Other duties as assigned

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
