JOB TITLE: ANTICIPATED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNSELOR
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/ Director of Curriculum and Intstruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid New Jersey Student Personnel Services Certification or School Counselor Certification or eligibility required.
Excellent communication and counseling skills and ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans especially as it pertains to I&RS/MTSS/RTI.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed as well as organize and coordinate work.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and community.
Demonstrated ability to lead group counseling.
JOB GOAL:
To support students in their academic programs and social-emotional development, by teaching and supporting social skill development, facilitating appropriate social connections, and fostering resiliency that will support them in subsequent grade levels and experiences with future endeavors.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the use of teacher comments,
interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and then works with students in evolving educational and career plans in terms of such evaluation.
Maintains all types of required student records and ensures their confidentiality. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping.
HIB Specialist.
Member of MTSS/I&RS/RTI.
To act as the liaison between school and community agencies on behalf of student needs.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with school counseling services.
Maintains a collaborative relationship with child study team members in providing for the needs of all students, making recommendations as needed, and ensuring compliance with IEP's.
Works collaboratively with parents and guardians in developing and implementing student plans, addressing concerns and challenges. Facilitates parent/guardian involvement and communication.
Serves as a consistent and reliable resource to all students by providing counseling that will facilitate and develop increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
Implement the elementary school counseling curriculum and plan and evaluate the counseling program yearly.
Identify areas of need, utilizing MTSS/RTI data, teacher input, parents, administration, outside providers, and/or self-referral and develop short term counseling goals that will be implemented through small group, individual, or push-in counseling services.
Facilitates transition from elementary school to middle school.
Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned or required by state law and board policies.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined as mutually agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
