Wheeling High School is seeking exceptional candidates who are committed to helping all students in a culturally diverse environment maximize their learning while making progress towards achieving district goals. A strong academic background is essential with a readiness to teach advanced placement courses. We expect our candidates to be highly proficient leaders who will excel in facilitating interdisciplinary curricular connections building-wide. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively articulate the role of literacy within a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum.

The Division Head

  • Social Science & World Languages is responsible for the conduct, evaluation, and improvement of instruction as well as the development, review, and updating of curriculum within the academic areas supervised. The Division Head provides educational guidance, support, and leadership to the staff to ensure the district's educational goals and objectives are met.

Specific Duties:

  • Evaluates staff performance and encourages professional growth and self-improvement.

  • Provide coaching and feedback to ensure school improvement plan strategies and instructional best practices are implemented.

  • Develops and maintains information on strategies for instructional improvement.

  • Monitors student outcomes in division classes to ensure that district educational goals and objectives are being met.

  • Facilitates continual review and evaluation of curriculum.

  • Keeps up-to-date on research and development in the academic areas supervised to provide leadership for instructional improvement.

  • Makes observations for the purpose of assisting teachers.

  • Provides input from the division to building staffing, scheduling, and curriculum decisions.

  • Serves as first referral from teachers on student disciplinary problems.

  • Helps teachers identify and gain access to human and material resources.

  • Serve on the school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)

  • Participates in the interviewing and selection of content area teachers.

  • Supports and directs the work of the resource teacher.

  • Performs other tasks assigned by the Associate Principal(s).

Qualifications:

  • Presently holds State of Illinois Professional Educator License with a General Administrator Endorsement or a Principal Endorsement;

Candidate must demonstrate:

  • an understanding of College Readiness Standards, Understanding by Design, and Assessment for Learning;
  • an understanding of reading instructional strategies;
  • an understanding of Response to Interventions and Professional Learning Teams
  • demonstrated a strong background in instructional leadership and instructional coaching is preferred
  • cultural competence and a commitment to achieving equitable student outcomes
  • a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • a growth mindset and receptivity to feedback
  • an ability to use cycles of continuous improvement to improve instructional practice and student outcomes
  • an orientation toward data-driven decision-making
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
  • ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established D214 policies and procedures
  • ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form
  • strong organizational and time management skills
  • an ability to manage multiple projects with an orientation to detail

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 195 Day Contract

SALARY: Administrative Salary Range (Grade 1) for the 2024-2025 School Year: $125,567 - $156,959; plus excellent benefits package
