You will serve as an Antenna Mechanic Helper in the Antenna Maintenance Division of the Telecommunications Department at NCTAMSLANT Detachment Cutler, ME of NAVAL COMMUNICATION.

Responsibilities

  • You will help repair and maintain a Very Low Frequency (VLF) antenna network consisting of steel towers up to 980 feet, steel counterweight tower up to 200 feet, and steel tower up to 90 feet.

  • You will help repair and maintain tophat antenna panels, download antenna systems, helix houses, cross arm clusters, antenna grounding system, transmission line/tunnels, and hoist houses.

  • You will help in continuous visual inspections looking for out of place cables, structural damage, and electrical arcing.

  • You will help with maintenance on Inverted Cones, Conical Monopole, Antenna, and GUYS.

  • You will help the Journeyman Antenna Mechanic by locating coaxial cable leaks and helping with guy wire retensioning.

  • The incumbent will work in the field of radiation 50% of the time.

  • The incumbent will be required to climb towers up to 980 feet in height.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Antenna Mechanic Helper, WG-4701-05 without more than normal supervision such as: Making repairs by, replacing download system, cables, switches, and bushings; assisting with repairing and maintaining antenna's; and assisting with visual inspections of cables, wires, insulators, broken grounds, and damages.
