Racking is one of the most important steps in the anodizing process. The basic function of racking is to hold the part tight during transfer between the different process tanks and to provide sufficient contact to the part, so that enough current can run, to form a uniform layer on the aluminum part. The racking employee loads/racks extrusions onto anodizing racks for the finishing process. Once the rack has been "finished" the racking employee unloads the racks and pushes finished material to the proper staging area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Push buggies of material into the racking area or to proper staging area.
Continuously lift extrusions onto the racks for finishing.
Attach parts to spline assuring a good contact and proper racking technique.
Verify correct piece count.
Label material with appropriate stickers.
Unload and inspect extrusions from rack after it has completed the finishing process.
Sort material due to its destination.
Assist with general housekeeping in Anodizing Dept.
Comply with Company and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
Regular and predictable attendance, safely perform tasks and adherence to all policies and procedures are essential functions of the job.
Must be able to maintain departmental production and quality standards with little supervision.
Teamwork is essential, must be able to work closely and effectively communicate with co-workers.
Must have the ability to learn how to use a ratchet and a clamp to properly hold the metal on the rack.
Must be able to make simple mathematical calculations and show knowledge of basic math skills.
Must be able to follow verbal and some written instructions.
Must have the ability to learn to identify and distinguish metal quality as related to finish or metal itself.
Must be able to read a tape measure to verify correct metal lengths.
Must be capable or have the ability to learn to read prints or die drawings.
Must be able to work overtime or "off shift" work hours as required.
Must be willing to perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor, Lead or Tag Writer.
Must be able to stand and walk back and forth between racking stations for up to 12 hours.
Must be able to continuously reach overhead (range of 14" to 78" from ground level- flat footed to palm of hands) while grasping metal with one hand and attaching clamp or using racket with the other.
Must be able to frequently squat while grasping metal with one hand and attaching clamp or using racket with the other.
Must have good hand dexterity and hand eye coordination to hold extrusions in place while clamping metal onto rack.
Must be able to continuously perform a two-person lift of up to 150 pounds
Must be able to occasionally perform a four-person lift of up to 300 pounds.
Must be able to determine and distinguish shades of color for quality verification.
Must be able to occasionally assist co-workers in pushing buggies weighing up to 3000#.
The manufacturing facility is subject to the same general climate conditions as outdoors (heat, cold, humidity, etc.) Chemicals, dust, pollen and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere and may create some odors in the plant. Oldcastle, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls and PPE. While some chemical may pose health risks if not properly used, employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals. While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and TOSHA, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company's hazardous program.
