This position is a non exempt position at pay grade 111.

Attendance

Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday

  • Friday, 8:00 am

  • 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

Under direct supervision of the ACS Supervisors, the Animal Control Officer Lead will provide functional supervision over field operations including ACOs, ACS investigators, Kennel Technicians, and Live Release. The ACO Lead will provide leadership and training to assigned staff ensuring they each have a clear understanding of job duties. They will be responsible for delegation of task and duties for staff. They will work in rotation for on-call addressing issues from Officers working overnight. They will directly support the ACS Supervisors in ensuring ACS provides the critical services to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front line leadership to assigned staff from multiple divisions under ACS Supervisor

  • Delegate assignments and assist in development and advancement of ACS Operations

  • Lead by example working directly with staff as needed

  • Knowledgeable of different divisions within ACS and assist in areas as needed

  • Develop training to advance the expertise of employees

  • Assist the ACS Supervisor with enforcement of local, and state laws concerning animal welfare and sheltering

  • Ensure that shelter care and capacity standards are adhered so all animals housed at ACS are provided with humane treatment

  • Maintain accurate records from euthanasia, intakes and outcomes, vet records and other various records

  • Maintain inventory for other items as assigned

  • Assists the Animal Care Services Supervisor in the development and continuation of training for ACS staff

  • Conducts training for ACOs, Kennel Technicians, and Live Release Coordinators to ensure proper protocols and updates ACO practices and duties are being followed

  • Seeks out training opportunities for CCACS staff

  • Ensure staff have firm understanding of sanitation standards for cleaning of kennel

  • Responsible for monitoring equipment issued to staff

  • Keep inventory records of items needing to be ordered

  • Utilizes a City's P-Card to purchase supplies and equipment as needed

  • Responsible for record keeping and processing of statements

  • Maintains and monitors the euthanasia equipment and incinerator

  • Models outstanding customer service for all internal and external customers

  • Promotes positive attitude to maintain good morale and positive outlook

  • Works closely with vendors, other city departments, adopters, rescues, volunteers and fosters to ensure positive resolution

  • Assists ACS Supervisor responding to citizen's concerns and questions

  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma

  • Minimum of (2) two years of experience

  • Euthanasia Technician Certified within (1) one year of hire

  • Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within (1) one year of hire

  • Local Rabies Control Training within (1) one year of hire

  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
