Specialized work assisting in the Behavioral and Enrichment Section of the Animal Care and Control Division. Conducts training of staff and volunteers; handles animals; assesses animal behavior; makes recommendations for placement of animals; assists in developing and running enrichment programs to increase animal adoptions and the live release rate, and reduce euthanasia of adoptable animals. Work is performed under the general supervision of the section manager and is reviewed through conferences, written reports and observation of results obtained.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of experience with assessing animal behavior and in the handling and training of animals.
PREFERENCE FOR: Two (2) years of experience working in a group setting with volunteers; one (1) year of experience practicing the "Dogs Playing For Life" model in a shelter setting; one (1) year experience using animal shelter specific software such as Chameleon or PetPoint; one (1) year of experience developing and implementing enrichment programs; Bachelor's/Associate's Degree in Animal Science.
Must be able to lift 100 pounds.
Will be required to complete a "Willingness to Work" Acknowledgment with application. Selected candidate must successfully complete the pre-exposure rabies treatment/vaccination.
