We are looking for an extraordinary Analytics Engineer to join the band and help craft an analysis-friendly data ecosystem at Spotify for the Content Business Unit. Our mission is to re-imagine the creator and consumer experience to be the audio-first network for the world.

To help us achieve this, the Analytics Engineer will build out an efficient analytics data suite so that we can craft common data layers, build impactful visualizations, and power our predictive models. Above all, you will be at the nexus of data science and business at one of the most innovative companies in the world.

In addition to possessing a strong technical background, you will be a natural communicator who is able to explain complex data and engineering systems to business and data science teams. We also have a strong preference for some modeling and statistical knowledge. Accompanying this broad set of responsibilities is exposure to many functional areas, as well as senior management, across Spotify.

What you'll do

  • Engineer novel data sets and features that gather the dynamics of content consumption on our platform.

  • Build new tools to track consumption over time and detect important shifts.

  • Visualize data in intuitive and clear ways.

  • Support leadership with research on key business initiatives and challenges.

What you bring

  • Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or another quantitative field; advanced degree is desirable.

  • 2+ years (5+ years for senior role) of relevant experience analyzing complex data with SQL, Python, Scala, and/or R.

  • Experience with feature engineering for machine learning models.

  • Knowledge of Google BigQuery and Java/Scala is a plus.

  • Comfort navigating complex and fluid organizational structures within a dynamic and global company. You will need to build and maintain multi-functional relationships spanning multiple teams and geographies.

You will own and lead the ongoing development of an analysis-first data ecosystem at Spotify, for the Content Business Unit. In collaboration with a team of Data Scientists you will help inform and guide decision making and strategy for stakeholders across the company. Above all, you will be at the nexus of data science and business, at one of the most innovative companies in the world. The Analytics Engineer will collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Scientists to build out an efficient analytics data suite, removing bottlenecks for complex analytics, and empowering all end data users to efficiently answer their own questions. This involves transforming, testing, deploying, and documenting data all while ensuring reproducibility and consistency of analytical results at all stages of the pipelines. A successful candidate will have a track record of applying a collaborative work ethic to successfully implement analytics solutions for existing Data Science teams. They will be a natural communicator, who think in terms of solutions instead of tools, and is able to explain complex systems to technical and non-technical audiences. What you'll do * You will be a primary contributor to, and ultimately be responsible for, the analytics data layer of our team's data science environment. This will involve building long term and robust solutions to surface critical data sourced from a huge and diverse collection of datasets. * Work closely with data scientists to design data structures and pipelines which will empower research and analytic questions. * Engineer novel datasets and features, and improve existing ones, with a focus on enabling the flexible analysis of the dynamics of content consumption on our platform. * Work with the engineering team to implement new ETL pipelines, and data infrastructure improvements, as needed. * Create and guide reporting best practices to ensure data and key metric standardization across the Content Business Unit. * Work from our offices in New York. What you bring * At least 2+ years of relevant experience analyzing complex data, using both SQL and Python, in a professional setting. * Demonstrable track record of successfully implementing analytics solutions for existing Data Science teams. * Significant experience in designing analytical data layers, conducting ETL with very large and complex datasets and managing DAG data dependencies. * Strong competency with SQL dialects on distributed systems (Presto, BigQuery, Spark/Hive SQL, etc). Including SQL based experience in nested data structure manipulation, windowing functions, query optimization, data partitioning techniques, etc. Extensive knowledge of Google BigQuery best practices and optimization is a plus. * Exposure to deployment via scripting languages (Python preferred), cloud product integration and automation via CLIs and APIs.
