Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:


STANDARDIZED JOB TITLE: Laboratory Assistant

Days: Monday-Friday

Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm or 9:00am-5:30pm

POSITION SUMMARY: The Lab Assistant is responsible for preparing analytical solutions for sample analysis using techniques accurately and efficiently following SRL procedures. The Lab Assistant will clean and maintain lab equipment and maintain overall lab cleanliness, work with Team Leads to maintain lab inventory, empty waste and dispose of biohazard bins as needed and perform routine lab checks during the week.

EDUCATION: Associates degree or technical institute training in a science or science related field


Be a full-time Bachelors degree-seeking student in a science or a science related field

EXPERIENCE: Preferred- Laboratory related experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.

Must be able to work well with variety of laboratory personnel. Excellent attention to detail. Basic computer knowledge. Must be able to work with constant interruptions.

For more information: The Senior Analytical Chemist will implement, perform, and maintain processes related to the testing of cannabis plant material; extracted cannabis components; and final dosage forms derived from cannabis. Duties and Responsibilities: * Implement established Surterra Wellness and industry best practices for testing medical cannabis-based products. * Analytical testing includes potency; heavy metals; pesticides; residual solvents, and micro-biologic contamination using industrial standard instruments including, but not limited to, GCMS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and HPLC. * Develop and maintain relevant analytical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, control charts and instrument certifications. * Maintain product and testing inventory and comply with the inventory tracking system * Assist in recommendations for scalable procedures as company grows, support work area processes and product development. * Support manufacturing, extraction, and formulation teams to meet production and quality related goals. * Manage duties and responsibilities of additional chemists and technicians and provide training to project team members for routine analyses. * Interface directly with third-party testing companies to interpret results, validate testing procedures and analyze data. * Provide reports and answer departmental questions during regulatory inspections Qualifications and Skills: * Age 21 or over as required by the Department of Public Safety * Must have a valid Driver's License and/or State Issued Photo ID (Required) * Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry with 2+ years analytical work experience and/or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with 5+ years of analytical laboratory experience (Strongly Preferred) * Experience with lab testing equipment including HPLC, GCMS, LCMS, ICP-OES and related software (Preferred) * Experience and comfort with method development and taking initiative to refine testing modalities to continually innovate the Surterra Texas analytical testing program (Preferred) * Experience with botanical or biologic analytical processes (Preferred) * Technical proficiency in MS Office * Focuses simultaneously on short- and long-term goals with the ability to identify problems quickly * Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment * English proficiency required, excellent communication and team skills, and analytically and intelligent in communication * Strong team player who works to make the entire team successful, regardless of reporting lines, not bound by strict role description and proactively seeks solutions to remove roadblocks * Familiarity with quality control, policy and procedure and documentation * Ability to pass a background check, including drug testing, to be registered as an employee of a licensed organization in the Texas Compassionate Use Program * Comfort with security protocols, including video monitoring and employee tracking Physical Requirements: * The ability to lift 20-50 pounds as needed * The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces * The ability to perform various physical activities, including lifting, standing, and squatting * The ability to work in extreme weather * The ability to wear personal protective gear during portions of the day We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
