Job Description ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION: Responsible for the development of test procedures and experimental techniques for evaluating and qualifying materials used in products and for research and product development.

Provide technical assistance to Tech services, the magnet wire plants, and the Polymer Research lab. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: An analytical Chemist provides assistance on technical problems submitted by the Tech services and the various magnet wire plants.

He/she develops methods to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of raw materials, intermediates, resin, enamels, and magnet wire films. He/she must maintain laboratory facilities and instrumentation and procure needed laboratory supplies and services to maintain efficient lab operations. He/she trains and offers technical guidance to other technical personnel in the laboratory.

Responsible for the completion of other tasks related to this position as they are assigned by cognizant management. Responsible for laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Advise and consult with technicians.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Identifies the importance chemical and physical properties of raw materials, intermediates, resins, and enamels, and develops specifications these materials must meet in order to ensure these desired properties. Establishes test method to evaluate magnet wire enamels by investigating the physical and chemical properties of the enamels.

Provides technical assistance to Tech Services, Polymer Lab, Chemical Processing plant and the magnet wire plants by applying the resources available to the Analytical lab. Maintains instrumentation and laboratory supplies. Increases efficiency of laboratory by keeping informed of technical advances in all modes of analytical chemistry.

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS: Broad understanding of computers and business software (Word, Excel, Project, Visio, Outlook) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: BS in Chemistry, material scientist / materials engineer or related fields, and/or 3-5 years of experience in the field of analytical chemistry.

Working knowledge of GC, LC, Thermal and IR and experience with magnet wire chemistry a plus Preferred qualifications include MS Degree. The following is the technical equipment the manager is responsible for: DSC (Differential scanning calorimeter)- Measuring thermal characteristics TGA (Thermal gravimetric analyzer)- Measuring thermal characteristics FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy)- Organic chemical Identification GPC (Gel permeation chromatography)- Size segregation of polymers GC (Gas chromatography) - solvent analysis Rheometery- Measuring viscoelastic properties of films and fluids
